What do you get your IL?

These posts got me thinking about how much time or energy we put into them and they give us a snuggie three years in a row with a cheap stinky and obviously regifted candle. Last year we got them a snow blower and a framed family picture. This year we gave them a hand made ornament with LO handprint, a new updated family picture, handmade caramels, a brag book and a gift card to men's warehouse so FIL can get a new suit. I'll get something odd I'm sure but I know my DH will get iTunes gift cards. No favoritism here, it's like they don't even know their own son. So....what did you get the IL?

FIL and his wife got a canvas print of DD. He is going to fucking love it.

MIL will get a mug with DDs pics on it because she drinks a lot of tea and it's all i could come up with. She will pretend to like it.

Fuck all.

Because they told dh they weren't getting him anything so not to get them anything. But his 28 yr old sister who lives at home is getting presents tho but mil says it's because she's "special".

Whatever my hubby buys. This year we split a new tv for their house with his brother. More money than I wanted to spend, but whatever.

A serious answer: every time we get them a gift we hear bitching (from MIL) about the $ we spent. How we should save it for the future blah blah we are so wasteful. :-@

So we've gotten them shutterfly books with DD's pictures that we put together. I really have stopped insisting on getting them anything for Christmas because I just hear about how frivolous & wasteful my traditions are. That I should be more practical. So I gave up.

My ILs are awesome. They're getting movie tickets, $100 restaurant card, FIL is getting a cooler/chair (he will love it!) and MIL is getting a scarf and slippers.

We got them a shun chef's knife and mugs with the baby's picture on them. They love coffee

I come from a poor family who fought my whole life, the love I get from my ILs (FIL died of CA 2 years ago but I loved him so) makes me feel so at home here.
My parents didn't send a shower gift for our wedding, a wedding gift, a baby shower gift, or even a card when he was born. I don't need gifts to feel validated but I was starkly reminded of my parents favoritism towards my sister when they just blew me off the last 2 years.

This makes me sad

as a mother of 2 girls I do not understand this at all. I'm glad you've found a fantastic family.
