Recommend Your Breast Pump!

Originally we were told that we would only have a select few choices through our insurance so I didn't put a whole lot of thought into it but that has now changed! We can pick whatever we want and will be reimbursed up to $120.

With that being said, what breast pump did you use and love?

Re: Recommend Your Breast Pump!

  • Medela pump instyle! And then also the manual harmony. Both came in handy. We EFB on demand so I don't pump a whole lot but but the PISA is more gentle than other brands I think. However I had 34 weekers and the medela symphony preemie + helped me get the most milk and helped bring it in faster. Have the LC come in and talk about it with you they will have info on them and it helps pass some time while on HBR but the pump instyle I used with my singleton and the twins.

Thank you! I have been looking quite heavily at the Medela Pump In Style Advanced as my choice! :)

I am thinking I will probably rent out a hospital grade one to get things going and while the babies are in the NICU.

We have spoken to the LC once and it is one my list to have her come back and ask this question to her as well!

  • I have EPd both with the PISA and Ameda PY, and had no issues with either. I liked cleaning the PY parts better, except for the valve.

I also use this medela. I just wanted to add that our nicu had pumps in the rooms. When I didn't sleep in their room at night and needed a pump, I used the one I purchased. So hold off on renting until you know the nicu situation.

My insurance covered a rental or purchase, so it was more cost effective for us to use that money for purchase and have one we could continue to use.

  • Ooh good point, see what brand tour hospital uses as it is awesome to have an extra set of flanges once you get your home pump too (versus having two different brands), though not all completely work across different styles (like the flanges work for the PISA but has a different connector hose for the one I rented at first).

My husband just brought this up to me tonight too.... he thinks our insurance will either cover renting or part of the purchase of one. If that's the case, it's definitely worth buying one instead of renting!

I will definitely be asking about what the hospital situation is, what they use, etc!

    Thank you!!
