Do you like boy's name Halen?

We are thinking of a boy's name and we had chosen Jake Halen (Halen from Van Halen). My husband is really into music. Now he is suggesting using Halen as a first name? What do you think?

I was thinking at first I didn't care for it but I said it out loud a couple times and it's growing on me for a first name. What would the middle name be if Halen was the first ?

It did not occur to me that Halen = Van Halen, however if I heard someone say that's why their name was Halen, I'd be hard pressed not to roll my eyes. To me, that's like having to say my name is Beatles because my dad loved the Beatles. I'd be so embarrassed.

Yeah, I first read the name as "Helen" and was wondering why anyone would ever consider that for a boy!

I also agree with PPs that it would be embarrassing for the child to ever tell anyone he's named after an old rock band.

I'm not crazy about it as a first name but don't think it is terrible middle name. Maybe a more subtle Van Halen reference, like Eddie?

I know a couple that is naming their baby after a Star Wars characters
...the poor kid will surely get made fun of. I don't think it's fair to push your likes on your kids through their name. What if your baby really hates that kind of music? If you're dead set on it, use it as the middle name.

Sadly, not the worst I've heard on here, but that's not saying much. Please don't name your kid Halen, especially after a band that will be pretty dated during the child's life.

I pronounced it wrong in my head til I saw the Van Halen reference. In my head the Hal part rhymed with "shall".

I'm in the minority and like the name Halen. I definitely don't see why anyone would think "Helen" or "Haley" at all, and Van Halen was my first thought when I read it. I do somewhat agree with the PP who said it's sorta pushing your likes on your child through their name, though, so if you have concerns about people thinking that I would use as a MN.
