Victory! (Sleep Training)

So, I believe tonight is the 7th night of sleep training and we officially had a no cry put down for bed!

I know this isn't going to happen every night but I'll take what I can get. I heard E talking to herself for about 3 mins and then, silence! Checked the monitor and she is all snuggled up and sound asleep :)

  • Awesome! Definitely don't get discouraged if she has a bad night. Last night LO cried for almost 20 minutes and I was thinking "oh no, this was all a fluke and nothing has changed..." But tonight, she fell asleep no problem again.

  • I definitely don't expect it to become a nightly occurrence. I do however hope that this is a sign of less crying overall in the future :)
  • Great to hear! It's getting better in our house too! Best Christmas present ever, a baby that sleeps!

It is. You may have a few lapses but they will be short lived. So glad she is doing well!!

  • We've been sleep training for almost two weeks now and DS still cries somewhere between 5-25 minutes when put to the crib. He sleeps better in general but this crying situation just isn't improving. I'm losing my hope that he will ever be able to fall asleep without crying. It makes me sad.

I'm sorry! Honestly, I'm sure it was a lucky fluke. She seemed to be pretty tired last night. Good luck and don't be discouraged!
  • I'm so glad it worked. your little one needed her sleep.

  • So I'm kind of an idiot...what exactly is "sleep training". I ask because we're currently living in a low sleep household.

  • woohoo I'm so glad to hear it, you deserve it.

@NDarya, don't give up! I don't know if it will help, but maybe changing up the time your LO is going to bed might make a difference? Even 10 minutes makes a huge difference sometimes in our house. S usually goes to bed around 6:30, but depending on naps, activity throughout the day etc etc, that can vary by up to an hour in either direction. If she's too tired when we put her to sleep she cries longer and harder.

@mommatotwo2, typically when someone says sleep training, they usually mean ferber or CIO. it's basically a way to help babies self sooth so they can put themselves to sleep easier

What my sleep training has included is a fairly strict bedtime routine and unfortunately some crying.

Every night around 6:45 I nurse LO, let her have some naked time, bathe her, lotion her up, put her in pjs, read her a story, say prayers, then put her in her crib.

After her bath when I bring her into her room I start a lullaby cd (which some people say not to do but I do). I also have a projector that shows stars on the ceiling above her crib.

She does cry in her crib but its getting less and less. The longest she cried in one stretch was 30 mins which was the first night. It has gotten better. It's really hard to hear LO cry but last night she fell asleep at about 7:15pm. She woke up at 3am, I changed her and nursed her and put her back down. She was awake but didn't cry. She slept until 8:30am!

It's tough but if you have tried everything else and nothing is working I'd recommend it! I don't check on her in intervals, I more so listen to the severity of the crying. I've only had to go in 3 times I think.
