Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I love sending and receiving Christmas cards in the mail. Actually, even though I've been married over 7 years, I just started sending them out last year after dd was born. But now I'm trying to figure out what to do with them all, and it got me wondering so I thought I'd make a poll!
Do you send out Christmas or holiday cards?
Do you get them out early or at the last minute?
Are they family photo type or traditional boxed sets?
How do you like to display cards that come in?
Do you have stacks of cards to send out each year, or just a few special ones?
Who makes the cut and how do you decide who to send cards to? Does your list change each year?
Do you feel obligated to send cards? Would you rather just send a card online, like with a Facebook post?
How long until the cards you receive end up in the trash? Or do you keep them somewhere -Where?
9/50
Re: Christmas/holiday cards - poll
Do you send out Christmas or holiday cards? Yes, otherwise the rest of these questions are even more pointless...
Do you get them out early or at the last minute?
We received a few before December (wow) but I mailed mine out this week, kinda late.
Are they family photo type or traditional boxed sets?
Photo cards from shutterfly (mostly free!) with some last minute candid photos - planned on doing family photos but that didn't pan out
How do you like to display cards that come in?
So far they are propped in the Christmas tree - maybe next year I'll pin them to a ribbon to hang somewhere. This reminds me of a favorite Christmas movie of mine, The Family Stone, and how the mom has cards allll over the house.
Do you have stacks of cards to send out each year, or just a few special ones?
It felt like a mountain when I was putting them together but less than 40.
Who makes the cut and how do you decide who to send cards to? Does your list change each year?
Family, and friends who are close enough that I have their address or care enough to ask... Anyone who sent one last year. This year my list was the same plus a few people. Next year I might drop a few if they don't send me one
Do you feel obligated to send cards? Would you rather just send a card online, like with a Facebook post?
Yes, my family members who have kids all do photo cards or cards with photos tucked inside - so that's why I started last year. Until then I felt guilty (was given the guilt trip) for not sending cards to those who sent us one.
I ask this specifically because I have several friends who have already made the Christmas card Facebook post complete with a "feel free to print this" or "consider this our card." It is very tempting to do the same, but I have too many family members who wouldn't see it. I will post a pic on Christmas, but not in place of sending cards. Plus I'm old school and it makes me sad to think that cards are becoming a thing of the past.
How long until the cards you receive end up in the trash? Or do you keep them somewhere -Where?
I've thrown them away after Christmas in the past. But I usually keep the photo ones - especially of close family.
So far they are in a drawer with my scrapbooking stuff, but they will probably end up in a photo file box because let's face it I'm never actually getting around to scrapbooking Anything!
Yes.
Do you get them out early or at the last minute?
Fairly early, I think. Early December.
Are they family photo type or traditional boxed sets?
Family photo now that we have kids. I did the boxed ones before they were born.
How do you like to display cards that come in?
We pin them up to a padded valence we have over the dining room windows.
Do you have stacks of cards to send out each year, or just a few special ones?
I think we usually send around 30.
Who makes the cut and how do you decide who to send cards to? Does your list change each year?
We send to our parents and grandparents and siblings, my mom's siblings, a few friends, a few of my dad's siblings. I used to send to all 8 of my dad's siblings, but noticed I only got cards from a few of them. So now we only send to the ones who send to us, too. The list doesn't change much from year to year.
Do you feel obligated to send cards? Would you rather just send a card online, like with a Facebook post?
No, I don't feel obligated. I like to choose cards and it's a good reason to get a nice family photo taken once a year. I don't think doing online cards would be bad, though.
How long until the cards you receive end up in the trash? Or do you keep them somewhere -Where?

Always a folded card, no photo type this year but we did put our holiday photo in cards to close family.
