newborn congestion

Hi Everyone!
I am a ftm with a 4 week old little girl. She has had congestion issues for the last 2.5 weeks or so. I have spoken with the ped and they said that its normal and to try the saline spray in her nose. I have done that and it just doesn't seem to be relieving her. The congestion comes and goes. Sometimes I can really hear her breathing and hear the congestion and other times I don't hear it at all. Her color is good and she doesn't have a fever. I guess I am just wanting to know that this is normal and not to worry. She still eats like normal and seems to be gaining weight. It just really bothers me to hear her seemingly struggling to breath so much.
Has anyone else had issues with congestion? What have you done to bring relief?

    Also, could it be some issue with reflux? Maybe that is making her more congested in the throat? It sounds like she just needs to "clear her throat". I wish there was some way I could do that for her.

    We have been battering the same thing. We even went to the ER because we thought her breathing was labored. false alarm. ER staff and our Pedi told us its normal and to keep up with the saline, steaming her in the bathroom and auctioning when necessary. Hang in there.
    Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

    Same thing here! My LO is 7 weeks old but he has been "snorty" since he was born. On Friday it got worse and at times his breathing was a little rapid. He is still eating and gaining weight, his mood is good, he's not screaming or fussy a lot, no fever. He is spitting up some after feeding and he's a little more restless at night than he used to be. I told my pediatrician all this over the phone and he said not to worry, that its normal, and all we could do is use the saline spray and the cool mist humidifier and keep him elevated for sleep and if anything changes call back. He also said he was too young for it to be allergies.

    I have not been able to get any drainage using the saline and nose sucker. But the humidifier has really helped at night.

    By chance-- did any of your babies swallow their meconium when they came out? Mine did. I'm sure it's totally unrelated or my dr would have said something.

    Been there. We kept a humidifier going constantly and it seemed to help.

    No, not our LO.

    It couldn't hurt - ask your pedi to check for RSV (it's a simple nose swab). All of this sound like my LO and she had RSV, although it got much worse overtime.

    no, she didn't swallow the meconium.
    we have our one month appointment tomorrow morning so I am going to talk to the ped about it again.

    I have a shortly daughter too. She's 12 weeks and has always been this way. I don't think she swallowed meconium but they suctioned her pretty good at birth to prevent it. I run a humidifier every night and saline drops but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I try to suction too but rarely get anything.
    One DD born 9/23/13.

    My LO has the same congested sound to his breathing and he too swallowed some meconium...

    LO will be 12 weeks tomorrow. We use the humidifier and suction when necessary. He did not swallow any meconium. You can also try elevating when they sleep,

    We had our one month checkup yesterday and I spoke with the ped about her congestion. He said it was completely normal. He listened to her lungs and breathing and said she is just fine. It is caused by their nasal passages. They are so small and since they only breathe through their noses, it just sounds congested. He said it could last a year and that we should get used to it basically. He did put my mind at ease though.
    Thanks for all the advice! We are not alone with this worry, but at lease now I know that its normal and she is doing well!
