Solid Foods Check In

I posted this check in for the past couple of weeks and figured I might as well again this week, especially since we might have some late June babies who just had their first foods (if you were waiting until six months.) I threw a couple of new questions into the mix to spice things up a bit.

1) What new foods has your baby tried this week? How did baby like them?

2) What do you plan to try next?

3) Any allergic reactions?

4) What has been your favorite thing about starting solids so far? Least favorite thing?

5) If you celebrate Christmas, what meal(s) do you think you will give LO then? Anything special? (Or if you celebrated Hanukkah or any other recent holidays, did you do anything different food-wise for them?)

6) Any other comments/concerns/advice to offer?

    1) Sweet potatoes and apples. He loved both.

    2) Peas, blech. If he is anything like me, he will hate them. I only like sugar snap pea pods. If he is like his daddy, though, he will love them!

    3) Nope!

    4) Favorite things are seeing how he reacts to each new food and how much he seems to enjoy it. Least favorite things are the fact this means my little boy is growing up so quickly, the extra time it takes, and the mess it sometimes makes. The mess is getting less as he learns how to eat well.

    5) I was thinking of giving him some purees somewhat comparable to what we are having: sweet potatoes since we are having scalloped potatoes and green beans since we are having green bean casserole.

    6) If baby doesn't like a food, consider mixing it with a food you have already tried or warming it a little to see if he/she likes it better. This worked with my LO and prevented us from wasting food.

I'm working on using up some of our frozen food so nothing new this week (except for last night when she LOVED gnawing on a pork chop bone).

    2) What do you plan to try next?

Probably peas, apples, and maybe a berry of some sort.

    3) Any allergic reactions?

    Nope.

    4) What has been your favorite thing about starting solids so far? Least favorite thing?

Last night watching how much she loved the pork chop! The poop and cleanup!

    5) If you celebrate Christmas, what meal(s) do you think you will give LO then? Anything special?

Not sure yet - maybe some ham?

    Pork rib bone= love
    Potato (mashed)= blech
Potato (french fry)= nom nom nom
    Peach oatmeal banana puree= love
Chicken & sweet potato puree= love
Avocado= what the flip is this?
Bread roll= nommy nom  (just a taste, did not give her the whole thing)
Bowtie pasta, plain= ooh, yay.. *gag* oh am i supposed to chew? i thought i should swallow it whole.  @-) @-) @-) (she swallowed half a piece then i took it away)

    2) What do you plan to try next?
    apple/blueberry puree, mango

    3) Any allergic reactions?
    nope

    4) What has been your favorite thing about starting solids so far? Least favorite thing?
    fav= she enjoys food
least fav= ruined clothes and/or a huge mess andplusalso the worry of her choking

    5) If you celebrate Christmas, what meal(s) do you think you will give LO then? Anything special?
Not sure yet. i'm hesistant to try real meat (non puree) b/c of the choking hazard. Plus i've learned my child does not know how to chew yet. She just rolls food around her mouth and swallows... so i'm not going to let her have any more non-mashable foods... she's scared us one too many times.

    6) Any other comments/concerns/advice to offer?
umm, i would not do bowtie pasta again for awhile. Like i said, going to stick to mashables or purees since she has proven she's anti-chewing.

  • 1) What new foods has your baby tried this week? How did baby like them? We haven't really tried anything new. We just give him all the ones he has liked. We also don't wait the 3 days so he has tried  A LOT of different things with no problems.

    2) What do you plan to try next? No plan. Just give him what he likes

    3) Any allergic reactions? Nope

    4) What has been your favorite thing about starting solids so far? Least favorite thing? I love seeing his face when he eats something. Least favorite - The banana makes it hard for him to poop though.

    5) If you celebrate Christmas, what meal(s) do you think you will give LO then? Anything special? (Or if you celebrated Hanukkah or any other recent holidays, did you do anything different food-wise for them?) It depends on what we have. We gave him some mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving so maybe that again.
