Possible PSA: blanket napping

Since Ty turned 6 months daycare now allows for him to take a nap with a blanket. Since we intro'd the blanket he has napped like a friggin champ. 1.5 hours + twice a day!!

Thought I'd share since I know we are all having sleep issues :)

Re: Possible PSA: blanket napping

  • We don't have napping issues at home but at school we were getting like 15-30 minute naps which was making bedtime be like at 6...

  • We don't do blankets and have never swaddled. He's on his own with a paci in the crib. Although now I'm considering giving him a blanket at night!

  • @kari5186 ours is a flannel one. Pretty heavy weight compared to the muslin ones we usually have around

  • @wasnotwas, how big is it?  I've been considering this.

Bigger than him. Like 3' by 2'?

  • I put LO in a knit sleep sack, gives her a paci, and a small safety blanket. She loves to rub it on her face. I pull it out of thd crib after she falls asleep... most nights.
  • I've been giving Ben the thin A+A swaddle blankets to use when napping for over a month now. He fights sleep so bad do he needed something to do with his hands other than claw his face. He also loves having it against his face. Starting a few weeks ago, I let him use a thicker blanket. He loves sucking on the silky edge. Haven't noticed better sleeping patterns though, unfortunately. :(

@Majwv8 We just started letting Ben tummy sleep at night as well and for 3 nights he only woke up once versus 2, 3, or 4 times! I think this is making much more of a difference for us. We'll see.
  • After reading this earlier, I went ahead and put a light blanket in LO's crib tonight when he got fussy and wasn't going back to sleep. It calmed him immediately down. It was amazing and pretty darn close to a miracle. Hasn't helped with all the wake ups, but each time I put him back down, I put the blanket where he could touch it = no fussing while he fell back to sleep.

Thank you @wasnotwas! You may have saved my entire winter break!
  • We tummy sleep now, too. I figure she's going to end up on her tummy anyway, why not just put her down that way?

  • I think I may need to try this magic at our house.... Do you put it over them like a blanket or is it more just to snuggle?

  • @araziza, my LO just snuggles with it, so I use a small security/safety blankie.
  • My LO has always slept with a crocheted blanket. I still rock him to sleep then cover him up once I put him down. He usually gets a blanket when he naps in the swing too but we keep it cold in our house.

  • 6 months is about when I started giving DS a blanket. He wore fleece footie pajamas and then I covered him with the blanket. Of course he never stayed under it but I think he liked just having it

  • I just tried this! Thank you so much for posting, I never would have thought of this. We have been struggling to get DD to nap in her crib for weeks, the blanket has worked like a charm!!

    Let's hope this continues!
