Getting stuck in the crib...

The past couple of days dd has been getting her leg wedged in the slats of her crib. She wakes up stuck and crying for help - it's pretty sad really. Luckily it hasn't ruined her sleeping through the night (just me). Is there anything I can do to prevent her from slipping her legs through and getting stuck? She likes to prop her feet up. I have mesh bumpers but I worry they might encourage her to climb or distract her from falling asleep so well. Anyone else dealt with this?

I don't currently have mesh bumpers on the crib, just to clarify. I also worry she might tangle up in them now that she wiggles so much.

  • I don't do bumpers either because DD would use them to step on then climb out somehow.

She has 3 small blankets. I take 2 & line the crib on both sides when she's lays down. It helps keep her paci from falling out & from kicking her legs out the sides.

She got her leg stuck bad once & I thought I was going to have to snap the rail. Luckily I just pulled them apart & freed her but it was scary because she was quiet then all of the sudden started screaming. I looked on the video monitor &.knew right away she was stuck. Ugh. Hasn't happened since.
  • DS got stuck just this morning! Luckily my husband was home to help free his leg. Not sure what to do…but it was scary!
  • Ugh my dh has always been the one to get her free too! He told me the trick was to lift her leg up and it slides right out. His logic was that the slats are wider at the top, but I think her leg is just skinnier when it is stretched out straight. Hopefully I won't have to see for myself.

  • The mesh bumpers we have are no where near sturdy enough to help them to climb out. It's worth trying.
