Anyone have changes in eyesight during pregnancy?

I've noticed over the last month or so that my left eye is getting weaker. If I close my right eye the left is really not pulling its weight and things are pretty blurry. Anyways, I've never worn glasses or contacts and had nearly perfect vision before now so I'm just hoping it will go back to normal after baby arrives. I've read that this can happen and then after delivery everything is fine.

Anyone else notice a change in eyesight? STMs, Have any of you experienced this before, and did it get better post delivery?

Re: Anyone have changes in eyesight during pregnancy?

  • I have not but friends of mine have. From what I've read, it's completely normal for your eyesight to change during pregnancy. What I'm not sure of is if things go back to normal after baby is here.

  • Yes! It's getting worse as the pregnancy progresses :(
I used to only wear glasses to watch TV and drive, and now I need to have them on all the time.
I've also been told by my doctor that I'm swelling and I am sure that is somehow related to how much worse my eyes have been lately.

  • My eyes have been getting blurry off and on, too.  I almost always wear my contacts, but now I have to have them in because my prescription in my glasses is weak enough that with them I get headaches.  From what I've read and what my Dr. has said, it's perfectly normal, due to hormones.

  • My eyes are more sensitive when I wear my contacts so I tend to wear my glasses more. Its totally normal though. I guess its recommended not to get your eyes examined during pregnancy in terms of getting glasses or changing prescription and stuff because I do change and I guess they can go back to normal.

This is me, too. I find myself needing my glasses more and more and I'm not seeing as clearly with them either, especially my right eye. I have chronic dry eye problems which I know that can get worse during pregnancy and can contribute to blurry vision. I'm going to give it a few months postpartum and then will go to the eye doctor. I really hope this isn't permanent.

  • Yes your eyes can change during pregnancy and they may or may not go back. I know that our eye dr also requires you to wait either 6 mo or a yr after LO's birth to have Lasic. My SIL wanted to have it done after my nephew was born, she had bad eyesite already. She had to have the same prescription for X amount of time for dr. to authorize the procedure.
  • Yes!  I have pretty bad eyesight to begin with and have to wear my glasses all the time.  I've noticed that my eyesight is blurry and I have to squint to see things I should be able to see with no problem.  My midwife said it is normal and that it will resolve after baby gets here.

  • Mine have been way worse the past few weeks. I had LASIK 10 years ago & haven't had an issue since. Now they are fuzzy :(

  • No measurable changes- but my contacts have gotten more and more uncomfortable as of late.

  • Yes, and I feel pressure and some slight burning when I am tired.  I have a lot of eye issues though so not sure how much I can attribute to pregnancy and how much is just me.  I hope everyone gets their sight back after delivery!

  • Mine have gotten terrible! My OB said they should improve after baby comes, but there's always a possibility that they won't. :(

  • My eyes were bad before pregnancy and they got worse in my second tri.

  • I have always have horrible eyesight. I went in for a yearly exam at the end of first trimester and was surprised to learn my vision had gotten (very) slightly better. My eye doc said it's common to have vision changes when you are pregnant, sometimes it returns to what it was before pregnancy, other times it doesn't. In my case, I hope it doesn't! But in yours OP, I hope yours returns to what it was.

  • I have heard a lot about this potentially happening, but I haven't noticed anything myself at this point.

  • Yes, my eyes are worse. I had corrective eye surgery about two years ago so they better go back to being perfect again! So far, the night driving bothers me the most.
  • My eyes are worse and my contact prescription expired. I was told to wait until after delivery for my a busk checkup and new prescription so I've been stuck in glasses since August! Hopefully it returns to pre-pregnancy.
