Sleeping through baby's loud noises

My goodness this little guy is a noisy sleeper! He grunts, whines, sucks loudly, farts, etc. so even when he is sleeping I hardly get any sleep because I'm such a light sleeper. What can I do? He is only 5 weeks old so he too little to be in another room alone but I would love to get some sleep one of these nights. Any suggestions?

Re: Sleeping through baby's loud noises

  • I put on a white noise app on my phone to help DS sleep, but I find it helps me fall asleep as well... Also drowns out DH's snoring... So everyone wins! :-)

  • I wish my DH would help me through the night. He works in manual labor so he says he needs his sleep. I pump enough for him to take half the night but he resents me for asking for help.
  • I'm going to put the sleep sheep next to my head.
  • I second the white noise! DS is in our room and we have a fan on and a cloud b giraffe (same as the sleep sheep). We also have a white noise machine in DD's room since her room is right next to ours and it works wonders!
  • We have the cool-mist humidifier as our white noise and I use ear plugs. DH takes LO downstairs after 4-5am. I am still working out additional measures - can I rewire my brain?

He resents you for asking for help? I say get a new husband and a white noise machine.
    This.
  • DD was a very loud sleeper (squeaking, grunting...) then she was dx'd with silent reflux. For reflux, the signs from the doc were her bouts of excess spit up with curdled milk coming out in puddles when she would lie flat. She EBFs, and her weight gain is great.

As soon as we gave her medicine ("Baby Zantac), the noises have greatly decreased. She sleeps much better, which in turn...we all do.

He's not too little to be in another room alone.  You are too nervous to have him in another room alone.  That's fine, but own it.
Agreed. My LO has been in her room in her crib since 3-4 weeks.  I did the same with her sister at that age.  Video monitors are fantastic, invest in one.

Agreed. Our LO has been in his crib in his room since birth. His room is on the other side of the house. We have an audio monitor but not video. He's doing great and we all sleep at night.

  • I wish I could move DD2 to her own room, but she will be sharing a room w DD1. So I think she's stuck our room until she sleeps through the night... :( she already wakes up her sister enough sleeping in our room.

  • Once we moved dd to her own room at 4 weeks we ALL slept better.

This has been true for us as well. He was getting to big for his bassinet and didn't sleep well in the PNP. There's not enough room for his crib in our master so he was moved to his nursery. He was exactly 5 weeks at the time.

Your husband is full of it. He's not performing brain surgery. The problem isn't your noisy sleeper; it's the fact that your DH is resentful of being asked to assist in the care of his young son.
  • Wait, he resents you for asking for help. I'm he made the kid too. I'd out the screaming kid in bed with him and walk out. Seriously how do you let him get away thinking this?

I have the same problem. I don't know of you EBF but we bottle feed so one of us sleeps in the living room from9-2 with him in his rock n play and then we swap from 2-7. I usually do the last shift and get hardly any sleep. It sucks but at least I get some sleep. Hopefully others will have better suggestions.

We do shifts too. That way we both get a little sleep.

  • You're right I am nervous about leaving him alone in his room, which is on a seperate floor of our house. I'll get a video monitor. He is 5.3 weeks and still wakes up every 1-2 hours to snack.

My DH can be a selfish jerk but he has been getting a lot better. But when he has work the next day he won't help that much. At least he helps some :/

I think I have a sleeping disorder. Even when it is quiet I'm having a hard time falling asleep. I'm going to talk to doc about it. It is misrable!

The not sleeping could be a sign of PPA, so a chat with your Dr might help.

  • My LO has been in his room since day 2. We have an audio monitor and a white noise app on an iPad in his room. I only hear that, and any actual whines and cries. All the normal sleep sounds are drowned out or not picked up and we all sleep better as a result.
