Clamping down at 3 months?

Holy ouch!!! Dd3 is 3 months old, and the last week or so has been randomly clamping her gums together on my nipple, hard. I can't take her off to try to teach her not to, because she doesn't let go! If I put my finger in her mouth, the suction breaks, but not the vice hold on me. It's usually about halfway through nursing, so I don't think it's let down related.

Why is she doing this and how do I get her to stop?!

  • Could she be teething?

  • I suppose it's possible. My other two didn't get teeth this early, so I wasn't expecting it.

  • My dd does this too sometimes towards the end of the feed. I also have a really hard time getting her off the nipple. I find that when she's doing this, she usually needs to burp.
