VBAC?

This may have been posted already, and I try to stay up to date, but I know there are days I miss... So here we go...

My last delivery was CS in 2005... Long time I know. I have since remarried and am 15w on Monday. We are hoping all goes well with this pregnancy and birth (so far so good) and are hoping for at least one more in the near future, fingers crossed.

My question is, with all that in mind, what would you ladies do regarding your birth plan for this pregnancy? I know a VBAC is possible, and there are risks both ways. My current opinion on the matter is, if all progresses naturally (labor) and on time, then I will try a vbac. But if I am late, as I was with my previous two children, and the docs start saying induction... I will just schedule the CS. Pitocin sucks, and is so much more stress to me and my baby.

I just want to feel as comfortable in my decision as I can, but I know either way you never "really" know what will happen.

    I'm hoping for a VBAC. But highly doubtful. I had a section in 2012. I was 10 days overdue, never went into labour. They induced me with gel 5 times... Nothing happened. In fact every time they have me a gel my cervix got tighter and further back. Eventually they just said I wouldn't be going into labour anytime soon and would need a section.

    Doesn't sound like good odds for me to go into labour again but I'm hoping and praying! They already have me down as a section again and won't be allowed past 40 weeks. I think we're scheduling for 38-39 weeks :(

    This will be our last baby. Our doctor has said with my frame he doesn't advise anymore than two children by section.

    I had to be induced with both of my children 1st one being in 2005 I was a week over due, 2nd in 2009 my doc didn't want me to go into labor over Labor Day weekend, and I am 16 wks now. But I didn't have any issues with pitocin. Although I still didn't progress and docs had to break my water for both, but after that labor progressed very quickly. This time around I am hoping she/he comes naturally without the pitocin, but if not we will go that route again. I have never had a CS, but I know you can only have so many, so I would def take that into consideration, especially if you are wanting more children in the future. Good Luck!

    Have you discussed this with your doctor?? My doctor said they will let me TRY to VBAC if I go in to labor naturally but they will not induce.

    My plan is very similar to yours.  I had a c-section after 5 hours of pushing because DS was positioned incorrectly and became wedged in my pelvis.  I did go into labor and progress normally up to that point, so if that happens again, I plan to try for a VBAC.  If it gets to the point where my midwife is discussing an induction, I will probably ask for a RCS.

    If I were you, I'd attempt the VBAC, knowing full well how it might turn out.  I'm jealous you get to even attempt!

    i am planning on having another c-section.  My daughter was a week overdue so i was induced and never dilated past 4.  Her heart rate kept going down so i had an emergency c-section.  After talking about it with my doctor we have both decided that i will go in at 39 weeks for a c-section.  Everyone is different and to each their own!!!

    There's a VBAC board with some very supportive ladies with great info.  You might also want to check out ICAN.  If you are planning on more children, a VBAC is a great option as multiple c-sections have increasing risks.  It's also important to make sure your provider is truly VBAC friendly and not just giving it lip service.  The VBAC board ladies have good advice on that.

    Thank you ladies!!! I haven't spoken to my doctor recently... My next appt is Monday, to which I will bring it up again. At my first appointment she brought it up, and recommended just scheduling a CS, but in the same breath told me that there are many successful VBAC births and I had time to decide. I will definitely ask about if she would even consider a induced VBAC, I just assumed that was practice if I stated that's what I wanted and I ended up going a week late again. Either way, you guys gave me more to think about, so thank you!!

    I have had one vbac and then another section (which there was no reason for other than the ob not being supportive of vbacs) and I'm hoping for a vba2c with this one. 

    Do your research, talk to your OB and find out supportive he/she is, how supportive the other docs in the practice are and if they work with other pratices on call....how supportive they are. Honestly, I really believe you need to full support of your OB to be successful. I also had a doula for my second and she was a huge advocate for me. My new OB won't induce but he will let me go to 41 weeks. My last one, as soon as I hit 38 weeks he pretty much bullied me into a section. Understand their policies.  Lots of luck to you!!

    My plan is this: If I go into labor on my own, I will attempt a VBAC. If I do not go into labor before my SRCS, I will do the section. My thinking is that since I was induced with DD, she just wasn't ready to be born yet, which led to the section. My body was never given the chance to "do it's thing."

    My Dr. said they don't recommend more than 4 c-sections.

    Hi there, I am a labor doula, just wanted to chime in. I would recommend 1) doing lots of research on VBAC vs Repeat C section. As much as doctors tout the safety of sections, there is actually a 2x greater risk of maternal death with c-section. 2) if you do decide to go for vbac, dont allow an induction as this would greatly increase the risk of uterine rupture. Vbac and induction just dont mix. 3) the most current research shows that the AVERAGE first time pregnancy is 41w5days. That is an average and it is plus or minus 5 weeks. There is a huge range of safe times for a baby to be born, and only your baby knows when the time is right. Your body grew and nourished this baby for 9+months, trust your body to know how to help the baby get out in its own time. 4) consider hiring a birth doula, who will help you navigate medical jargon and help you have not just a "healthy mom, healthy baby" birth, but one you will remember fondly for years to come. 5) everyone is different and there is no right way to birth!!! Just do your research before agreeing to anything! Many docs will claim c sections are the safest but its just not true.

    I was induced at 39 weeks and ended up having a c/s. We've scheduled another one for 6/24 but depending on how this pregnancy progresses a VBAC is possible. My son was 9lbs 4oz but while I don't consider myself to be petite, because of the way my body is shaped, my doctor recommends I try for a VBAC only if the baby is under 7.5 lbs. If I have a VBAC I don't want to be induced again.
