Thought we could start a thread about this. Let's talk about what works what doesn't, success stories, tips, etc. Hopefully we could all help each other. Who would of thought potty training could be so difficult!
We tried this summer (DS was 20 months and wanted his diaper changed asap after he did anything in his diaper). Daytime training went well until we let him play outside in the kiddie pool. We decided to give it a couple months and try again. We are going to try again this weekend. Fingers crossed that it goes just as well or better this time around!
What worked for us: waiting until our kids were 100% ready, then putting them in underwear. Both PTed themselves with very little interference from me, and very few accidents. DD1 at a little over 3, DD2 at 2.5
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."

This is what we did, too. At about the same ages.
I wish it was this easy! DD was definitely ready, but just super afraid of "letting it go" in the potty. It was such a challenge convincing her that is was ok. The trick I used is allowing her to hold me while she was on the potty. That way she doesn't feel like a part of her is going to fall off. That's what happens with kids that are hesitant, they view their duty as a part of themselves so when they have to let it go, they think a part of their body is going to fall off. Weird, but true!
I tried a few times- she just turned 2 and she sits there and loves to wipe herself. She peed once.
To be honest, I don't have the energy to try it until she is really ready. It took 2 days for my older one to be fully potty trained at 2 years 9 months because she was reayd.

I've tried a couple times with DS hes 2 and 4 months. Both times he showed he was ready in every way until it was time to go on the potty and he was not ready. The first time we tried going naked he held his pee and poop for hours on end and would not sit on the potty to save his life. The second time we tried underwear and he just stood right next to the potty and peed with no remorse. We shall try again this week because now he claps when me or daddy goes in the potty and he now calls me and tells me he needs to be changed. It may officially be time. Any tip would help I have another LO on the way and I would like a little diaper free time.
I just started the Stress Free book's method. We are on the modeling and nakedtime phase. We've done this pretty exclusively for three (today) days. I'm really not sure we've made a ton of progress except that she loves her big girl undies (wants to dance around and look at herself in the mirror). The only success we've had is her going on the potty when she's already sitting on it for a good length of time. Otherwise, she just straight up goes in her pants and says, "Oh no." I'll try to keep up as many nakedtime sessions as I can over the holiday break. I'm not going to send her to daycare to PT until I feel like we are making headway at home.
We're on day 3 of actually really trying to potty train around here and it's going well. DD seemed really ready. We've had a potty for a long time in the bathroom and she's loved to sit on it and go and then just sit, but she was still using her diapers a lot. She was doing well at daycare.
Since my morning (noon, and night) sickness has gotten much better and I'm home for 5 whole days with DD I figured we'd give it a real go. She's doing great. She was naked from the waist down the first 2 days. And she's in panties below the waist today. She's good about recognizing when she has to pee / poo and getting herself to the potty! And she loves washing her hands so I think half the time she just tries to get a little out so she can do that!
We just finished day 2. He had zero accidents day one and the first half of day two, we kept him naked from the waist down. Then he decided he was done until he got to wear his underwear. Now he is catching himself, but not until after he starts peeing. He is showing us that he wants to learn though so we are continuing since we have a few more days were he can stay home without going anywhere. Fingers crossed that it just keeps getting better.
we really haven't tried DS is 2.5 sometimes he'll say "poop!" when there is poop and just lay down in the middle of wherever we are at the time and want his diaper changed lol. Sometimes he'll ask to sit on the potty but he is just goofing around and the only time he has done anything in his potty chair he was playing with my ipad so he didn't even understand what was going on. His preschool teacher said she help try to guide him starting in January so hopefully it will turn into something. We are also working with a language delay so I don't want to push it too hard
We did the 3 day method when DS was 26 months. He's been good ever since and he will be 3 in 11 days. We will definitely do that method with DD, too!
We did the three day potty training method with both kids. It is a little tougher with kid number 2 because you have more distractions, but it works! Good luck!
I got Li a chart with stars, lots of Hershey's kisses and Minnie Mouse underwear. She also has a standing Monday play date with a girl who has been going on the potty in front if her, hopefully that will all help... We start trying tomorrow.

I decided to go for it over holiday break. DD was already pooping on the toilet pretty much every time, so with a few days off we started the 3 day method. Day 1 went not so great. I had a lunch date and my hubby was home all day. She had zero success going pee, but was fine going #2. When I came home, it went a little better. Day 2, I pushed liquids and put her on the potty pretty much every 20 minutes. She started getting mad at me, so after her afternoon nap I was ready to throw in the towel and wait. I put a pull up on her and we went out to dinner that night and she asked to go 2x while we were there and actually went. So, Day 3, we kept at it. And she only had one accident. Since then (it's been less than a week), she's averaged one accident per day. Some days it's just leakage, others it's because she doesn't make it in time.
Oh, and we used candy to get her to go. One skittle or M&M, or even a marshmallow or some raisins.
