Securing furniture!

Ughhh! How sad and just awful! While snooping around on July13, I found this article that someone posted.
I cried- just a warning!
Our babies will be able to pull themselves up before we know it! We also plan to secure our large flat screen TV to the wall. I can just see that falling over way too easily!

Re: Securing furniture!

  • I stopped reading about 1/4 of the way through. I couldn't read anymore.

To those that do not want to read it, a little girl lost her life by pulling up on her dresser. So tragic!! PLEASE secure furniture, TV stands/TV's, etc!!

  • That poor family.  I can't even imagine how they've suffered.  My husband doesn't think we need to secure any furniture because it's "too heavy" to be pulled over... he's in for a looooong to-do list this weekend.

  • This crushes my heart..... I couldn't finish it.

  • Oh good Lord this makes me want to baby proof the entire house to a whole new level. Hubby and I will definitely be taking care of this before she's mobile.  What a horrific thing to live through.

Same here. I just emailed this blog post to him.

When I was little I climbed up my bookshelf and it fell on top of me and I couldn't breath. I remember the absolute fear when I realized I couldn't take a breath. Thank god my brother heard it fall or who knows what would have happened. EVERYTHING is getting secured, and SOON in our house.

  • My husband is the same way! Kids are like little monkeys- they climb everything! I sent the article to my husband too- saying WE WILL be securing EVERYTHING! I don't give a shit if it ruins the walls!
  • DH and I just had this discussion.  You can never be too safe!! I did not read the thread because after that ugly cry video yesterday, my heart cannot take any more grief.

Another thing you should never do, PROP BOTTLES.  I only bring this up because my friend works in an ER and they recently  had a baby come in DOA.  The dad had been feeding the baby and fell asleep.  The baby did to and the bottle kept dripping into his mouth.  His lungs were completely filled with fluid.  It makes me so sad.

  • @jessicaivana Yeah, I could not believe it either.  I am not sure how tiny the baby was but you would think it would have been able to turn it's head away or something.  I knew that it could be a choking hazard, but I was unaware it could take a babies life.

    That's awful. I can't even imagine.

  • I read this when DD1 was a few months old and it has haunted me ever since. When my DD1 climbed out of her crib for the first time earlier this week I made DH check to make sure everything was secured yet again because we have moved stuff in and out over the last year and a half.

    What a nightmare.

  • DS1 pulled down a dresser when he was about 22 months. It was terrifying. Thank god I was right there to push him out of the way. I don't even want to think about what could have happened if I wasn't there.

Secure EVERYTHING. this was a low dresser in the master bedroom that we didn't because usually DS1 is never in there. It happened in a blink of an eye.

Please, please please secure everything ASAP.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • I read this before we were pregnant and already secured everything in his room. We will be securing everything else soon.

  • Oh my gosh. That's so sad. The part where she held her daughter in the rocking chair after she passed I sobbed. I imagined that being my son (who is 3) and how horrible and hurt she must hve been.

  • Very scary situation. I had to stop a couple times and lost it when she rocked her. Absolutely heartbreaking.

I felt the need to repost on Facebook and hopefully educate/ inform others of the real but more importantly PREVENTABLE risk of this.

  • I won't read it because I don't want to hear all the details. Just knowing it happened is enough to make me get my act in gear. So so sad.
