I want to only use like 2 brands really. I want AIOs or 2-n-1's,One size and snaps! I like Charlie Banana and Bumgenius, anyone know of other brands that match my wants?

ETA: Really I will try any kind of CD but I'm kind of overwhelmed at the moment.. Almost makes me just want do Eco-friendly "green" Disposables and take away from the hassle. :(

Re: Best Cloth Diaper Brands?

  • We used BG exclusively when we were cloth diapering, and I loved them. Didn't really feel a need for anything else. You should check out the blog Dirty Diaper Laundry, though, because she has reviewed almost every cloth diaper out there.

  • Check out the bumgenius freetime.  Snaps, AIO, OS… That's exactly what I was looking for too.  I am addicted to reading amazon reviews, and so far… BumGenius is looking better than Charlie Banana.  I'm going with the BG personally. thanksmama.com has good deals when buying 6 or 12 at a time.

  • I'll also add… We CD'd with our first, and used gDiapers, and I don't care for them.  They are the sole reason I am looking for an AIO.  Too many snaps, stuffing, velcro, liners… wtf?

  • We only use BumGenius. It's the only brand we have never had leaks with.  BG 4 LYFE!!!

  • We used BumGenius 4.0s (snaps) as covers and set a pre-fold inside them instead of stuffing the pockets. This is what we still do for nighttime. Turns out I hate stuffing pocket diapers, hate how finicky microfiber can be in the laundry, and prefer to reuse the cover a few times for just pee. We also liked CharlieBanana size smalls back when we went through more diapers a day. And also Thirsties Duo wraps.

For other brands to consider, I've heard great things about AlvaBaby (cheap Chinese BumGenius knock offs) and TwinkleTush (ridiculously expensive but very cute diapers made in the USA).
  • Bumgenius freetimes are also my fav AIO

  • We use BGs as well. I tried a thirsties aio. It leaked. I used to use some sunbaby as well, but those stopped working as she got bigger.
  • I have use bum genius, alvas, covers and prefolds, fuzzibunz. I got rid of the alvas and fb and now only have bgs. The freetimes are my fav for the toddler stage but i think they would be too bulky for nb. Elementals weren't absorbent enough but I feel like they would be great for a NB. 4.0 work well for both stages.

  • I know someone else commented on the gDiapers and didn't like them, but I adore them.  They are a little putzy with the snap in liners, but so are stuffing pockets.  I freaking HATE stuffing pockets.  We use only gDiapers with gCloth (cotton fleece/hemp) during the day, and BG 4.0s (2 layers of BG Microfleece and a Hemp Babies Little Weeds for absorbancy) at night because I have a super heavy wetter and he'll soak a gDiaper in a few hours.

I actually prefer the gDiapers over the BG4.0s.  Like I said, I hate stuffing the pockets.  Plus the 4.0s are so freaking bulky.  And I chose snaps over the velcro because I had read so many complaints about BumGenius velcro, but I feel like I can't always get a good fit with the limited snap adjustments.  My kids seem to grow in stages:  long and super skinny, then equaling out until they are short and chunky.  There are always periods when I can't get the BGs tight, whereas with the gDiapers and velcro, I never have that problem.

Plus, I love that we can use g's biodegradable inserts when we travel.  My kids are super sensitive to disposable diapers, so this was an important deciding factor when we ultimately chose to try the gDiapers.  Both my kids have gotten bleeding diaper rashes after only a few hours in a disposable.

I will add that I have 1 BumGenius Freetime AIO and I despise it.  Like I won't use it unless every other diaper in my house is dirty.  It isn't thick enough, it ALWAYS leaks, it doesn't seem to come as clean as the rest with the same washing ritual, and it takes forever to dry.  I will never buy another AIO.  But that is my experience.  I know a ton of people who LOVE AIOs and wouldn't go any other way.  I second the PP who suggested joining the Dirty Diaper blog.  Also, spend some time lurking on the Cloth Diapering board on TB.  You'll see so many different opinions.  :)

    Good luck!

  • We use Bum Genius 4.0s and Freetimes and I wish we had all Freetimes!  They are so easy, are more absorbent (in my opinion) than the 4.0s, and NO STUFFING. The only problem is that they are bulkier, so when I first started using CDs when my son was 4weeks old, they were BULKY. I don't care, though ... I would replace all of my 4.0s with Freetimes if I had an unlimited budget!  We started with a bunch of FuzziBunz as well, but I didn't care for them and ended up selling them online to get more BGs.  I also had one Charlie Banana and HATED it.

It kind of depends on what fits your baby. I loved Fuzzibuns before DD chunked up. By the time she was 6 months old, I was so tired of stuffing pockets I about quit, but remembered AIOs. So, once she got a bit bigger, I had a whole stash of Freetimes and liked those, but decided I hated microfiber so I switched to all Elementals and was hooked.

We didn't start cloth until about 5 weeks with DD, but will start from birth with this babe. I've got prefolds and Lil Joey covers, a bunch of BumGenius XS AIOs, and Grovia NB AIOs.

My biggest piece of advice if one is new to cloth is not to build up a stash of just one brand. Try a couple of many brands and see which one is the best fit/easiest for you to use. Bumgenius didn't fit Stella when she was tiny and skinny. At 8 pounds, they fell right off of her.

ETA: We also used gDiapers when she was 5ish weeks old and did not like them at all.

  • I had a lot of diapers but I loved the flannel fiteds I would buy off e-bay with covers over them they never leaked.  I liked wool covers but my DH and mom never would use them so I bough bubele bums AIO I don't think they make them anymore but they were amazing.  They washed and dried well didn't leak and were easy to put on.  They were also really soft with minky on the outside

I like the Gdiaper newborn pack since the disposable inserts can keep the cover clean and it can be reused without having to wash it after every use! ugh this is all so confusing lol glad I have awhile to decide!

My DD was 100th percentile for height and weight (aka fatty) so she didn't fit too well in the OS FB or BG. We used prefolds and sunbaby diapers (which are super inexpensive and have held up great over the 1 1/2 years I used them.
What inserts did you use for your sunbaby diapers?

I get that but I kinda need diapers before my baby gets here lol so how do i know what to get? I mean I am willing to try any CD just want to know which is the best quality and price!?
  • Thinking of doing Honest Co diapers instead! Make it easier on me and DH! lol
  • I tried a lot of CDs when I started, ended up settling with this:
Kawaii Pure and Natural until my munchkin hit about 20lbs.  (Super fit and cheap, bought through sweetbottoms)
Bumgenius 3.0 and 4.0 bought through craigslist/diaper swappers from about 15lbs to now and beyond.
I ONLY use velcro because it makes it simple for my husband and daycare and is easy to change a squirmy baby/toddler.  Never had a problem with piling and these are second hand.  Planning on using them for this kid too.  I have to tell you.... if your husband is going to change a diaper, GET THE VELCRO so he has no excuse... it is just like a disposable when you use the pockets with velcro.
Oh, and as for AIOs.... They take a long time to dry and you would have to put them in the dryer to really get them dry each time.  I had some AIOs and it took those suckers FOREVER to line dry.
