Sleep regression. How long has it been going on?

Since it seems a lot of us are struggling with the 4 month sleep regression. How long has everyone been dealing with it? Any suggestions to get through it?

Our sleep regression has been here for almost a whole month. LO will be 5 months on chrismas and it started right around when she turned four months. Im just getting to the point where I've given up hope that she will ever sleep again. The only solution I have is coffee, and a lot of it. I'm starting to feel crazy. I forget everything. I can't think straight. I'm adveraging maybe two hours of broken sleep a night.

How are other moms dealing with this? Vent it here.

3-4 weeks ish. We have a good day here and there. But, dammit! I miss her naps! I used to get stuff done!

FOR. EV. ER. ETA to answer the rest of your questions...I just take it one day at a time. Coffee is my BFF. I chant "this too shall pass" at various hours of the night. So far I still have a job, the cat is still alive and I remember to put on clean underwear most days so id say I'm dealing with it pretty well.
I KNEW I forgot something this morning...

  • I feel so bad for you! I hope it gets better for you soon. My lo will be 4 months this Friday... I am pretty nervous about the sleep regression after all of the posts about it.

  • Three to four weeks. We went from eight to ten hours at night to three or four hour stretches. I am pretty damn sleepy.

  • This is what it feels like. But ours is naps. I've just decided sleep sucks at this age and rolling with it. Lots of coffee and fresh air perks me up.

  • DD turns 4 months on the 22nd. I honestly don't know if she's gone through it or not because she's been a crappy sleeper since she got her 2 month shots. I feel like my whole life revolves around her sleep....

  • It's been at least 3 weeks, and DD turned 4 mo on the 10th. She wakes 3-4 times a night. I'm hoping she turns the corner soon, but so far no luck. She never slept through the night, but would usually only wake once. Id do just about anything for that.....

  • About 3 weeks. Last night she slept 6 hours though...I'm curious to see what happens tonight. Maybe this is the light at the end of the tunnel...:)

  • We have our first STTN since last Wednesday, last night. We will see if we're done, or if she wants to keep going.

  • We had a month where LO refused to go down at bedtime (it took anywhere from 1-2.5 hours to get her down) but once she was down, she slept great and only woke once overnight. Then about a week ago, she started going down much quicker (within 15-20 minutes), but she started waking up multiple times a night. Now she is switching back and forth between the two, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to whether she goes down quickly or how many times she wakes overnight. We're just sticking with her bedtime routine and hoping it clicks eventually.

  • I'm going into my 4th week soon. And his naps are awful too!! But my LO isn't even 4 months yet. So I don't know what's going on :/

  • I'm so sorry you all are dealing with this! LO hasn't gotten there yet, at least not that I know of. She is kind of all over the place when it comes to that stuff. I can't ever tell if she is going through a growth spurt or wonder week or what. Some nights she sleeps great, others she sleeps like crap. I never know what the hell is going on.

  • Thanks everyone. Sometimes it's good to just know your not alone. Ours also kinda hit really hard LO got her 4 month shots, growth spurt, we all got sick, and then found out she had a ear infection in both ears. It's been quite the month. We just finished her antibiotics tonight's so here's to hoping we see some sleep improvement. I also really hope things get better for the moms that are dealing with this too. It's no fun and the moms that haven't had it hopefully your the lucky ones and your baby continues sleeping for you!! :)
  • We are at a little over a week. We have a long way to go. I just keep telling myself that he is learning and that includes what he can rely on me for. I'm trying my best to show him all The love I can during those tough moments so he knows he can count on me. It may even be what he is searching for. Knowing that makes it easier for me to get through the long nights and days. But dang this mama is tired and like you OP I think I'm losing my marbles!

I seriously am. I ask SO the same things/tell him the same things about ten times a day before it clicks in my head. I can't remember the shit I think from what I actually do. For instance I thought about asking SO for something. Then get mad at him because he didn't help and in reality I never asked. Yup I'm crazy, and I feel like I've just been in a drunken haze the past month :-t
  • I don't think we had this or if we did it hasn't been bad. We had a few nights where he woke up twice instead of his usual 2 times but I figured it was a growth spurt. We also had a week or so of time after he was 3 months that he didn't want to go back down after he ate and that sucked but it didn't last long. Hopefully that was the regression for us.

This is exactly what my lo did right after 3 months! I hope that was the regression for him, too.

  • About 2 weeks for us, but seems like a lot more! And there is no napping unless I take her out shopping or she naps on me- immediately wakes up when I put her down! I too, miss getting things done! At night, she was waking 1-2 times, now it's 4-6....
Getting back to sleeping better is LO's Christmas gift for me...I hope!!!!!

This! And on top of it DS has gotten separation anxiety starting around the same time ( kind of like the I only want mommy, but miss being able to lay him in his basinet and just shower or do whatever) and also he is sensitive to when I drink caffeine. If I drink before two bye bye what little naps he does. If I drink after two he will go to sleep in the evening BUT when he wakes up he ready for play time

  • Every since we moved Piper from the bassinet beside my bed into her own crib, her sleeping habits have changed. The move coincided with her turning 4 months, however, so I don't know if it's regression or not. Regardless, I am remaining consistent with bedtime routines and naps by any means necessary and forging ahead. If I stay the same, at least she can depend on that, even if she's getting up more frequently. Does anyone keep sleep logs on a regular basis? helps me see her 'patterns' if you can even call them that.
  • About a month I would guess over here. We went from getting 8 or 9 hours of sleep to getting up 4 times a night. Hoping the end is near!
  • We're at about 3 weeks and I am exhausted!! LO went from 10 hour stints to now waking every 2-3 hours and it's showing no sign of changing.

The strange thing for us is that her naps have got better. Since 6 weeks she has only had 30 minute naps, but since the regression hit she does at least 2 naps of 1.5 hours a day and sometimes more.

LO also changed what she does during the night wakes. She used to be up for nearly an hour during her one wake, and be quite awake. Now she wakes 3-4 times but is only up for 10-15 minutes until the last wake at 4-5am when she wants to be up for the day.

  • I think it's been about 3 weeks, but it feels like so much longer! We used to get some decent stretches of sleep, but now I'm lucky if it's 3 hrs between wake ups. I can't wait for this part to be over! It really does feel like the longest shortest time and I will never sleep again!
