Wowza!!! I had the worst charley horse/ muscle cramp in my calf last night! Anyone else experience these during pregnancy. I think it scared the crap out of DH, he thought I was in labor!

Re: Charley horse

  • Yeah usually only at night do I get those and they definitely hurt. This week, shin splints are killing me.

  • There was a stretch of about two weeks where I'd get charley horses every other night in my calves. It got so annoying that I would wake up and just start crying.

  • I was constantly waking up screaming from them but it stopped about a month ago ... When it happens it helped me to straight my leg and flex my foot and breathe through it. Scared SO shitless Til he got used to it.
  • I was getting them every night/early morning for a while, but they've eased up over the past 2 weeks or so.
  • I get them a lot - I learned to detect them just as they are coming on and flex the foot really strongly towards myself. Stops it in its tracks. If it gets really frequent/bad it helps to put at firm pillow or folded blanket at the foot of the bed so that your feet are forced to be in a flexed position (you get the spasms when you stretch your toes).

Also as PP said drink more water and as any biker will tell you amp up your potassium (oranges and bananas are good). They help.

  • Yep...pretty much nightly these days.  I find it helps if I stand up right away and try and walk them out.  They really suck.

  • I get them a lot lately.  I have found that it happens more if I'm dehydrated too.  Also, magnesium helps a lot in getting rid of them.  I either eat a lot of nuts (pumpkin seeds have high mag too) or take a calmag supplement.  They haven't been as bad since.  I hope you get some relief!

  • Thank God not this pregnancy! But they do suck, and I got them a lot with my other pregnancies.

  • I woke up screaming from them three times this week! My right leg is especially killing me. They are horrible!
  • I got the first one when we were staying at the in-laws. I woke up screaming a filthy word. I notice a massive difference in them when I drink before I go to bed and keep a glass on the bed side table. I hardly get them at all now.
