Not one to post, mostly a lurker ... But now that I'm suffering from PUPPS I need encouragement. I've been showering w/pine tar soap for 2 days taking 2 showers a day and slathering on some prescription cream Dr. gave me.
How is everyonesuffering from this doing? Any other home remedies to help treat this??
I'm 2 wks pp. can't imagine going through this while pregnant.
Re: PUPPS support group
I'm finally not itching from mine. It started last Saturday and it spread...FAST. I made it thru the weekend taking benadryl once a day and went and saw my OB first thing Monday morning. She diagnosed it as PUPPS and gave me a topical steroid cream as well as an oral steroid to get it as fast as possible. I started the oral steroid on Tuesday and finally stopped itching yesterday. It still looks awful but at least my skin doesn't feel like it's on fire any more.
I had it at 37 weeks with my first and it was awful while pregnant because topical steroids is about all you can do. Since I'm 2 weeks PP this time I was able to do the oral steroids which seriously saved my sanity
I think I am suffering from PUPPS now. I started getting very itchy last weekend, and when I was at my Monday appointment my doctor said that stretch marks are dry and to use cocoa butter lotion and I would be fine. Well, by the next morning, I had some itchiness on my hips. It has since gone from my hips to my thighs and I have a few bumps on my ankles. I have used shea butter, cocoa butter, various Aveeno products, benadryl lotion, hydrocortizone cream, and even baking soda in the shower. I found a website:
https://www.naomikritzer.com/motherhood/PUPPP.shtml
so this afternoon I am going to try to find the Grandpa's Tar Soap and also that Band Aid Anti Itch Gel (had it a few years ago for bug bites and it was the only thing that gave me any relief). I ice a few times a day and even get up in the middle of the night and end up sleeping on the couch because I need to ice and don't want to keep my husband awake. Last night I tried taking some benadryl and I was able to stay in bed the whole night, getting up a few times to reapply some lotion; but the itch wasn't has bad as it has been the past few nights.
So far I have had a great pregnancy, and I am at 40 weeks right now. I am looking forward to the pain of labor just to end the discomfort of the itch. My entire pregnancy I promised myself I wouldn't use medicine or even drugs during the labor. At this point I am so frustrated and irritated with the itch I might have to reconsider my plans, because the itch is so unbearable. I think I can tolerate pain better than irritation.

Honestly...the monitors on my belly at the hospital were brutal. It was sooooo itchy it was almost worse than the contractions. Between the contractions, the tummy itching under the belts from the monitor and the blood pressure cuff cutting off circulation to my hand it was an almost unbearable combination of stimuli. It's probably not what you want to hear, but the epidural saved me because I couldn't feel the itching anymore once it kicked in.
I didn't have PUPPS with my first, so when this rash appeared I was so less than trhrilled. I am 11 days PP and it still itches but nowhere near as bad. Although, it has since spread to my lower legs and tops of my feet. I'm hoping it completely disappears soon.
Good luck with everything! Hopefully all goes well and this goes away for you.
Thanks. This is the strangest thing I have ever physically suffered from. For months I was concerned with how I was going to be strong mentally and physically for a completely natural birth and this PUPPPs garbage has my mind elsewhere. It started on my belly and has since gone to my hips, butt, all down my legs, and today it was higher on my belly, practically reaching my boobs, back, and also on my arms and hands. Not too red on my upper body yet, but my lower body is a mess.
My husband is out search for the pine tar soap; hope he finds it. I asked him to buy a big bag of ice so I can make small bags of ice, because once it itches in one place, it seems to itch everywhere.
It sucks that you are still suffering from it. I have read that some women have it from around their 33rd week or so. I could never imagine having this that long! I'm glad your itch is starting to decrease. My doctor said to stay out of the heat, so hopefully if you can it will continue to go down real soon. The humidity certainly hasn't helped this summer. Good luck and thanks so much for the heads up!
