mr. grabbyhands

my ds likes to grab his goods during diaper changes.  i had let him do this originally as i figured it was harmless.  now, my destructive boy pulls and scratches his goods.  he's got scratch marks all over and draws blood on himself.  i keep his nails as short as possible, put socks on his hands sometimes; anyone else going thru this?

i had to fight with him the entire time in the bath today, not fun.  using a swim diaper next time.

Re: mr. grabbyhands

  • Mine does the same. I usually give him something to play with.

  • I can only temporarily distract him with a toy, he usually drops it and goes straight for goods when the diaper comes off. I had good luck with socks on the hands today. Will ask his dr tomorrow to see if she thinks he's in pain/itchy.

  • My little lady was doing this. Turned out she had a yeast infection. Hasn't been nearly as grabby since it was treated.

  • My guy just likes to touch it or poke at it. He is pretty nice with himself. LOL. We try and distract him with a toy.

  • Update - Dr gave him a prescription cream as she thought it must be itchy for him to do that to himself.  We are 2 days in with very little improvement, but I am getting better at distracting him.

  • Boo.  I'm sorry that the cream doesn't seem to be helping.  Did the dr think it was like a yeast infection or something? I know when I got my last yeast (like 10 yrs ago) it took a few days before it felt better.  With my last one, it turned out I was actually re-getting it from my DH (then bf).  He ended up having to take some kind of oral medication.  Maybe if it continues there is another med that could help?

    Good luck!!!
