Bitch nurse!!

Anyone else have a run in with a bitchy nurse?? I'm in labor and delivery and having baby girl tonight (thank you Jesus!) and am on pitocin drip to get contractions to come stronger. I've had contractions since 9 am yesterday morning. They decided to help labor along since my blood pressure is border line and I'm progressing. I'm dilated to a loose 4, 70% effaced. And my contractions are pretty painful. I havnt gotten my epidural yet because I'm not in unbearable pain and my nurse made me feel like I'm a big baby. She was like, you can get it now but you won't even appreciate it. UGH! Now I'm trying to wait it out a little longer.

Pshh. Get it now if it's what you want. That way you don't have to feel the unbearable pain. It'll be easier for them to put the catheter in and for you to stay still during it if the contractions aren't that strong yet too. Request for a different nurse while you're at it.

Remember, once you ask for it, they still have to check your blood and call the anesthesiologist. That takes awhile! Screw the nurse, whenever you want it, ask for it! Everyone labors differently, it's impossible for her to know how you're feeling.

Good luck with baby girl! And personally I would have told her to take her opinion else where and asked for a different nurse so you are a lot nicer then me at this point lol. Hope everything moves quick for you and LO!!

That is terrible I am also in labor and delivery but I'm getting lucky contractions aren't to bad yet. I would ask for another nurse and insist on an epidural if you are ready for it. No one knows what labor is like for you so they shouldn't be giving an opinion for you. Good luck!

Why wait till is horrible pain!? Believe me, you will still Aprichiate it! My nurse made me feel bad for joking around while in labour( my coping mechanism)

Get it now. I decided to wait and it took them an hour to get to me. I have never been in so much pain, pitocin contractions are the worst!

I felt like my nurse was a little judgey when I asked for the epi at 3 cm. she didn't flat out say anything though. I would hold your ground and get it. It obviously will get worse and like others said, after you ask for the epi it might take a while to actually get it.

You have to be your own advocate. I had a nurse who prolonged my labor, because it wasn't following her rules, when shift change came my new nurse was much more receptive and I was able to start pushing with in an hour. So get the epidural if you want it and definitely ask for a different nurse!

Please do not hesitate to ask for a different nurse if having this lady around isn't conducive to a positive birth experience for you. Who cares what anyone else thinks?! Good luck!

I got mine at 4 cm even though I could still tolerate the pain from the contractions. This was also cause my OB was heading in within the hour to break my water ... But still if you want it you should get it! And I second the asking for a new nurse thing!

I had a similar experience with my second delivery. I was induced and the nurse told me to let her know when I wanted the epi, since I was dilated enough for it. I wasn't in terrible pain yet, but that was my second kid and I knew what was coming so I told her I wanted it ASAP. She rolled her eyes at me and asked if I was even feeling my contractions yet. I noted her name right then and there and gave her a terrible review when it came time to do my discharge surveys. L&D is stressful enough without added attitude from other parties.

Great news!! Shift change so I got a new nurse and this one is so so sweet! When my contractions still weren't strong enough they decided to break my water, and oh my lord I have never felt so much pain in my life. About 10 mins after my water was broken contractions hit me like a ton of bricks. At that point I had been on pitocin for 3 hours and was nearly 5 cm dilated. I was literally crying for my epidural. Now I got it and am a happy momma! Just waiting for my princess to come! Only bad news is when they broke my water they found out baby girl had a bowel movement

but they are preparing for it so hopefully all works out! Thank you everyone

Glad you got a new nurse

. After I had LO the baby nurse came in while I had a few visitors. We were all comfortable if not too warm in the room, and she came in and said oh my god it's sooooo cold in here brrrrrrrr and made a huge deal of it. As she walked out I rolled my eyes at my mom and SIL and they felt the same way. She walks back in a minute later with a thermometer to take LO temp, because she felt we were freezing him out or something. Then she said 98.3, that's not bad, 98.6 would be perfect, but that's not bad, and left. I wanted to slap her for insinuating that we kept the room too cold for LO. He was all swaddled up and warm too.

Yay! Happy you finally got the epi and a new nurse! Pretty much this exact thing happened to me except I'd been on pitocin for 15 hours before asking for the epi and the nurse says "you waited 15 hours what's 5 more?" They had just broke my water and I was in so much pain I was vomiting. The anesthesiologist was pretty upset he had to do it while I was getting sick because she drug her feet.

Both of my labors I have had one terrible nurse, one that was so/so and one that was awesome . Thankfully Ms. Awesome was there for pushing/actual delivery both times . It can so make or break the experience.

She's perfect!!! I got so terrified because she didn't immediately cry when she came out and then she only cried for maybe a minute and that was it! But they suctioned everything out of her lungs and she's perfect and healthy and beautiful!! 7 pounds 8 ounces! I have a second degree tear but besides that I'm doing wonderful

Yay! Congrats on baby!!! As for nurses, I got lucky with most of them, but one keeps pissing me off. She strikes me the wrong way, and of course I had her 2x during my stay! My delivery nurse the last one, was great, all the ones before her, I don't remember. She was so nice though, and kept me calm and was so helpful!

I'm sorry yours was such a Bitch. I probably would have hit her or kicked her while I still could ;-) glad you finally got your epi too :-)

Ugh! That sucks! My nurse wasn't bitchy but was pretty terrible. I was screaming in agony asking for the epi and she kept telling everyone who came to the room "she's barely 4cm", like I was being ridiculous and just being a big baby. DD was born 1/2 hr later. I went from barely 4 to 10cm in 1/2 hr and there was no time for the epi. Get the epi if your in pain, screw your nurse.
