Calling all cat people...

My BIL has a cat. A couple of weeks ago he encountered some health issues and is unable to go back to his apartment for a few months (no elevator and too many stairs). The family has been taking turns taking care of his cat at the apartment and today was our turn. There was no fresh cat litter, so I did my best to clean out the cat box, which was pretty nasty to me considering others have just dumped the whole litter box out and refilled it.

Now for my question. Is there some system that you can buy or that you use to make this process easier/cleaner? What do you use? I am going to have to buy something because I am not going to clean the litter box that way again! TIA!

Tl:dr.. I'm not a cat person and need to know what to buy to clean the litter box :)

There are two types of litter - one you throw out the whole lot, and the other you scoop out the clumps. Buy clumping litter if you want to be able to scoop it.

I love the Omega Paw Roll 'n' Clean litter box (google it) but if you're not going to have the cat for long, it isn't worth it.
I will google it! Thanks @livvyx :) Whatever I buy is staying with the cat!

  • We have a litter genie.  I just scoop out the stuff and put it in there and DH dumps it once a week.  Works great with apartments or lazy people like me who don't want to take poop out every day.

Also, i use Arm and Hammer litter with NO FRAGRANCE.  Trying to cover up kitty pee smell just makes it worse.  It's clumping litter of course and has baking soda to deodorize.

I dump all the litter out once a month and clean the boxes, but that's just me.

Plus, if you're just scooping out the stuff, sprinkle new litter on it after and mix around.

  • I actually use breeze cat box. It has a lots and the pee goes underneath to a pee pad and the top is pellets. Super easy to scoop the poop. Pee pad gets changed weekly and pellets changed monthly

My mom has this and she loves it.

I ordered the box that @livvyx suggested so it should be easy enough for all. It will be easier for my BIL when he gets to go home too :)
