anyone else's LO having tantrums

and scratching and hitting you when it happens? Happy for advice if you any of you have suggestions.

Re: anyone else's LO having tantrums

  • Ooooooo yes. He spits and screams. He isn't even around other kids and I don't spit when I'm mad. Haha. So I don't know how this happened after just 12 months. Crazy huh? I just tell him no very firmly and redirect him. It's exhausting. But they're so young that there's not much else we can do.

  • Yes and we just firmly say no and redirect her.

  • Feels like she has them every 30 secs haha I just tell her no, put her down if I'm holding her, redirect her and sometimes put her in her playroom to chill out. Usually works!!

I take his hand, say "we don't hit", and try redirection. If he does it again, I say it again and immediately put him down. I'll start (very short) time outs when he's closer to 18 months.

    This.

  • Oh yes. We do try to redirect. If he hits he gets put down with a firm NO . Typically that bothers him so be stops. I anticipate it getting worse before better

  • Yes to tantrums, but no hitting.  Its more she wants to be independent with something.  IE, she wants a snack, but she will pitch a fit if you put a few puffs in your hand for her, she wants to reach into the tube and get them herself.

This. Her new thing is to not stay seated in a high chair when we are out to eat (she can't get out of hers at home). She has no interest in being still while we're out. She wants to walk around and "talk" to everybody. Looks like we're going to be eating at home for a while because I don't like either of the options at a restaurant, which are to let her scream in the high chair when we have to make her sit down OVER and OVER or to let her run around the restaurant, interrupting other people during a meal.

  • Thanks for the feedback and advice guys. When I say "No" firmly to LO she bursts into tears. I mean, she really wails...and then the next day we are back to hitting if she is upset. She has also taken to hitting me sort of playfully when she is in good humour...which is also unfortunate. It's lighter though, and doesn't involve, say, the clawing and tearing at my eyes, cheeks and throat that I get when she is having a tantrum. She does not, btw, do this to DH.

So, we've been trying what you all suggested "no" and redirect. Basically, it works if DH has "no" or some variation on "don't hit mommy". If I say "ow" or " don't hit mommy", the tantrum ensues regardless...sometimes up a few notches.

It's not a mommy loving time in our house right now. Basically, LO calls for DH whenever he is absent. She longer let's me put her down to sleep (I've done it every night since she was born). She wants to snuggle with DH to go to sleep. She will say a list of names, but refuse to say mine. When I ask her to say mine, she says "Daddy". When she is angry/throws a tantrum she hits me. Whenever we are alone, she constantly says "Daddy". None of this happens when DH is with her. I know it's a phase, but...man...it is a bummer.
