Out of the mouths of babes

One of my day care kids came (2.5 years) came up to me today and said, "What's in you?" I asked him like three times to repeat himself, and he finally poked my belly and said, "Here! What's in you here?" His mom and I got a good laugh out of that one!

  • Loading the player...
  • I hear a bunch of funny things everyday being at the center. Today one of kindergartners walking by said, "Ms. Erika, the baby is out!" I said, "No, the baby is still very much in." Then I realized she was talking about one of the babies who had literally gotten out of the classroom while we were loading up the buggy :)

@jessicabcairns my DS does the same thing. He feeds the baby through by belly button and every once in a while tucks a toy under my shirt for his sister to play with!

DD does the same! She even "gave" LOher bunny she sleeps with :)
  • The other day I was on sitting at the computer desk and I half doubled over from a kick from the inside baby. My 3 year old looked at me all concerned and asked what happened. I said, "Annabelle kicked me." He looked at my belly and in a very stern voice he says,"Annabelle! Don't kick Mama!" It was so hard to contain my laughter.

  • These are so cute!

When my 20 mo Godson is asked "Where's the baby?" he comes up to my belly, pokes it with a smile on his face and says "Nate!".

  • A year ago I was working out, trying to lose weight before possibly getting pregnant. Well, I was successful while healthy, but I kept getting colds and would have to quit for 1-2 weeks. My oldest has been asking when we're having another baby since DD was like 3 months old. Anyway, 2 or 3 times last year, he asked if we were having a baby now, all excited. I said no, why? "Well, Mommy, your tummy is getting big like when you had Ada"

Gee thanks! I took it  as a teaching opportunity, that it's not polite to talk about other people's size, weight, or ask if they are pregnant.

So, when I ACTUALLY got pregnant, and my tummy for real got big with a baby, he was a sweetheart and said nothing :) We didn't tell them till I was about 17-18 weeks, and DS1 said, "I thought maybe, but you said I shouldn't ask people that. Yay, someone else can play with Ada and she'll stop taking all my toys!"
omg that is the cutest thing! DS1 sounds like such a sweetheart!

  • When we first told our families that we were expecting #2, my 4-year-old niece got this really troubled look on her face.  "Why are you having another baby!?" She seemed genuinely upset about it.  I told her "Well, Gigi wanted to be a big sister, just like you are." (What else do you tell a 4-year-old!?!) And her response was, "Oh!  Well, she could have had Jacob (her younger brother). I wanted a sister anyway."

Last night they were at our house while my SIL finished her Christmas shopping.  She asked me if I "still had my baby girl, and if I'd reconsider trading her for Jacob.  When I said that I didn't think her parents would want to trade Jacob for anything or anyone, she said "Oh well.  Mommy wants another baby anyway.  Since yours is a girl, are you going to give her to my Mommy for Christmas?"

  • I'm SO glad I started reading this thread; these little ones are making my day! I haven't heard anything this funny from any of the kids in our lives, but I love that my best friend's little boy calls our son "Baby Yeo" (instead of Leo). It actually makes me like the name even more!

  • @alinafed - Yes, DS1 is usually quite sweet, and thoughtful, and overall a wonderful child, just like all of mine are. However, lately he's going through what I hope is a phase, and he's just the biggest PITA every morning and evening and weekends, picking on his brother and sister and back-talking to me.

Then I look at DH and ask what we were thinking wanting a 4th. And then they do something sweet like make a card for me or a picture...

@MrsGraham06 Haha sounds like a pretty common phase (hopefully). These are the kinds of things that scare me - as a FTM only the newborn stage seems ok, the rest seems totally foreign and terrifying! But also super rewarding as you get to know these little people more and they say and do cute things!

  • @alinafed - I love the newborn phase! So much snuggling, so much cuteness, so much good-smelling of baby...DH likes them older, wrestling with him and climbing on him, talking, reading- the active part. I don't get as many cuddles, hugs, or kisses like I used to. But there are definitely other rewards :)
