GTKY: Christmas Cookies

What cookies are a must for Christmas in your family?

Those with older kids, what kind of cookies do you leave for Santa? Or what kind did you leave (if any) growing up?

  • Crap!  I need to make Santa cookies this year!?  Probably, seeing as my son has watched the Caillou Holiday movie a zillion times and he emulates everything Caillou does.  Which includes cookies for Santa.  Ugh!  Like I don;t have enough to do!

Holiday cookies, I usually make chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, and something in the cook book I found with dried fruits in them.  I just tried the brown butter salted caramel snickerdoodle ones someone linked to on here, and they were a hit at the bake sale I made them for :)

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

Butter cookies, Italian annizette cookies( not sure of correct spelling), if you're Italian you may know what I'm talking about when I say brown cookies with a glaze on them. My aunts and mom make them every year. And rainbow cookies which are a huge pain in the ass but sooo worth it! I should start those this weekend and freeze.

    Ooh what are rainbow cookies?

  • We always have date balls, cream cheese wreaths with red hots, sugar cookies, and they aren't cookies but we always do German Chocolate Cream cheese cupcakes. I am going to attempt making S' mores cookies this year. I went to a wedding where they served them and they were amazing!

I can't wait to eat the cookies for Santa! We always left the decorated sugar cookies.

  • I always make decorated sugar ones at least once and on Christmas bourbon chocolate truffles. Those are the staples every year. I make other stuff throughout the month like fudge, sandwiched cookies, or biscotti too.

  • This makes me sad that I haven't had time to bake. I'm not even done shopping yet. Yes, I realize I have less than a week.

I like gingersnaps, snickerdoodles, and chocolate spritz cookies - all dusted with red and green sugar.

  • I'm not a huge cookie fan, but chocolate chip cookies and chocolate dipped macaroons are must-haves.

  • I love myself some Italian wedding cookies and chocolate crinkles...also nothing better than a sugar cookie with icing. I haven't made cookies in a while...I have absolutely no will power and I eat them all!!

  • -Peanut butter blossoms (Hershey kiss cookies)
-Scotcharoos (peanut butter rice krispy cookies with choco/butterscotch topping)
-Nut horns (super delicious buttery nutty cookies dipped in powdered sugar)
-Candy cane cookies (bar cookies that are pink with peppermint and chocolate/crushed candy canes on top)
    -7 layer bars
Other cookies I like but don't necessarily make every year: buckeyes, oreo truffles, mint brownies, white chocolate craisin macadamia cookies)

I LOVE to bake, but I actually haven't made any cookies this year because I have been so swamped. And since tomorrow is my last day of work, I won't have anyone to give them to and DH and I will jsut end up eating all of them... so I may just help my mom this year making a couple kinds. Last year I baked up a HUGE assortment to share with my coworkers.

I think the snowball cookies and Italian wedding cookies are the same thing. They go by a lot of different names like Russian tea cakes, mexican wedding cookies and butter balls. So yummy!!

  • I make pizzelles and Ina Gartens ultimate ginger cookie every year. Oh and chocolate drops. This year I also made Mexican wedding cookies, raspberry thumbprints, and those Hersey kiss cookies with marishino cherries.

  • Growing up I always loved making sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies with cookie cutters and decorated with homemade icing. Now, sadly I don't really like cookies... Or sweets in general. Bring on the salt!
