C-Section and She Wasn't Pregnant?

Came across this. So apparently doctors have this woman a c-section and it turns out she wasn't even pregnant?! How does that happen???? Any thoughts on this?

Something about her sounds off, because she was convinced she was pregnant even after going to doctors and them telling her she wasn't. She was sure they were wrong, and went as far as forging doctor's papers to confirm a pregnancy. So when the ER docs can't find a heartbeat, they think the baby is in distress and perform an emergency surgery, only to find out there's no baby! The whole thing is crazy!

I guess I'm just kind of confused as to how you convince a doctor that you're pregnant. I've never heard of this "phantom pregnancy" before. That is crazy.

My MIL's dog apparently went through two phantom pregnancies with of MIL's pregnancies after DH. She had the whole giant belly and everything. Never heard of it in humans though.

My mom works in L&D and they (nurses, docs, anyone working on the unit) have all had to be educated about women who either really think they are pregnant or women who fake a pregnancy to get into the unit to potentially take a baby(but that's a whole nother topic). It's so bizarre to me that people will actually convince themselves just about anything!
