Newbie Introduction

Hi all,

I have been lurking on these boards for the past couple of days and figured I should stop being a creeper and say hello. Hopefully I get all of the acronyms right :-)

I am 35 (36 in March) and my husband is 43. We just got married 11 days ago and don't want to waste any time in the baby making department since we're not getting any younger! So I stopped my BC after the last pack, and we did intentionally BD for a few days around when I thought I would be O'ing, assuming a 28 day cycle. Unfortunately I don't know yet how my body is going to react to being off the pills, but I didn't want to let a month go by without giving it a shot. I just got some Wondfo's from Amazon and started testing even though I was on CD15 and think I may have already O'd (based on EWCM, unless I was imagining it). I tested in the evening on CD15 and both morning and evening on CD16 with negative results. Wondering if I should keep trying a few more days to make sure, or stop wasting the tests? Thankfully they are cheap and I have a pack of 50 to start. I wish I had ordered them a week earlier, but at least I'm all set for next month unless we get incredibly lucky. I will also get a basal thermometer for the next cycle.

So I guess I may be in the TWW, but I'm not entirely sure. AF is due on New Year's Eve unless my cycle is wacky after stopping the BC. I will try not to be too bummed if she comes, I know it is not likely to get KU on the first try, especially at this age. But there is a tiny part of me that thinks maybe it could happen...

And now I'm off to read and learn more from all of the great people here. GLTA

  • Welcome. It sounds like you are on the tight track for taking charge.
Don't be surprised if your period is off for a few months. After I stopped the pill I didn't get a period for 2 months. Then when I did get it it took a few more months to get regular.
I would continue with the opk's and start temping so you will ready for when you do become regular.
Good luck and congrats on getting married.

  • Welcome. This is a great bunch of ladies that are super supportive! I personally love the weekly check-in that @ksgsmu posts on Wednesday.
Good luck getting your cycle back sooner rather than later. My suggestion, from person experience, make sure you work w/ your OB/GYN NOW instead of waiting. If you do need help (as in RE), it's good to start counting those 6 months w/ the doc.

soontobeshrader  about seeing a doctor for bloodwork now ... make sure you are taking a prenatal and if you are not pregnant in 6 months go see an RE.

Good luck!  Hope your time is short here and you get your BFP soon!

  • Good luck on your  journey! You received some great advice in pps.
  • Thank you all for the warm welcome! At my last annual with the OBGyn (in May) I told her we were getting married in December and that we would start trying soon after. All she said was to start prenatals and that I should see her if nothing happens in 6 months. There was no mention of blood tests prior to that time. Should I be asking for something proactively? I guess my next checkup would be in early May so that will be after 5 cycles.
  • Welcome! So glad you're here with us!

I would continue testing with OPKs, probably for another four or five days. If you have regular cycles, and you don't get a positive result, you probably ovulated. Of course, that is ONLY based on info you provided in your post. Then, maybe switch to HPTs to test for pregnancy (fingers crossed for you!).

I also recommend using FertilityFriend.com or another online chart tracker, to track your OPK test results, cervical mucous, cervical position, etc. It will help indicate when you O (though may be too late this cycle - but you can start next cycle). It will also give you a visual over a few months of what your body does, when you O, what your temperatures looks like if you take them, etc. Really good resource! Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? BEST book for learning about ovulation tracking to get pregnant. :)

    Good luck to you!!
