I ugly cried at 2am

So we are working on the art of crawling and sitting up. That new art form is now being practiced ALL NIGHT LONG.
Paige hasn't been a great sleeper to begin with, I am used to waking anywhere from 1-3 times a night, for the past 8 months... however... this new skill she is learning is kicking my butt. She made it about 15min-1hr stretches all night long before she would sit herself up, look around and scream... after trying to get her back asleep for the 12304892093 time last night, I sat there, rocked her and bawled my eyes out.
I know this is a stage and like a super duper sleep regression, but in ya'lls experience... how long does this last? I hear once she masters her art, she should go back to normal. The normal 1-3 times seems like heaven right now...

  • No advice, just sympathy. The sleep sack has prevented him from being able to stand in his crib, until now. So now I'm up a jillion times, only to get him settled down, I leave the room and he immediately stands up again. Lather, rinse, repeat . I'm going to prescribe myself a lot of vodka over the holidays.
  • I'm sorry you hit a breaking point. That sounds really frustrating. My daughter has also joined the up all night club. She's just awake from about midnight to 2 a.m. and mad that we aren't playing with her. Part of our problem is that she's still in our room so she knows we are 2 feet away and can hear her scream. It will get better eventually, but it surely is hard in the interim.

  • We are having the same issues. Camden has never been a great sleeper but over the last month there were nights that he would STTN. This week has taken a turn for the worse!! He wakes after sleeping for 2 hours and it usually takes 1-2 hours to get him back to sleep. He screams, cries, and crawls around in his crib.

  • We have not hit that phase yet, but we were up quite a bit for a few nights due to teething (I think). The only thing that saves my sanity is taking turns getting up. I get up with DS before midnight, and DH gets up with him from midnight on (usually; if it's a lot, we take turns though). I don't know if that's an option for you, but it works well for us.

  • We were up 10 times last night. Ten. I cried at the airport this morning due to pure exhaustion.

  • I am feeling all of your struggles. I haven't tried any sleep training but thinking it might be time to bite the bullet if this continues.

@skidderdo 10 is about where we were at last night, so sorry you have to travel on top of it!

@MKC12/22/2006 the half the night thing might work. Right now we were just alternating but my husband always claims he didnt know if it was his turn or not, so I usually just get up anyways, doing your plan, he could look at the clock and not have any... 'confusion'
  • I'm sorry you're going through this. I would not wish it on my worse enemy.

Connor has been getting up crazy amounts too. Though he is inconsistent with it. Last night was heaven compared to the night before and the night before that... I am trying my hardest to keep my frustration in check.

  • This was me two nights ago. So much that it woke MH up and I could tap out. However, it has gotten better the past couple of nights. We were on about day 10 when it started to turn around.

Hope it gets better for you soon!

  • I want to say I am sorry and you are not alone. Ethan was going through this and we are much better this week. It lasted about 6 weeks.
  • I'm sorry :(. My LO does the same thing. I'm still up at least 3x a night. It's like once they master one skill here comes another. My daughter would stand in the crib after the sit up phase. Hang in there. It will get easier.
