Postpartum Depression

Just a quick introduction

I'm a second time mom to another beautiful little girl. I had PPD - diagnosed at 10 months PP - 16 years ago after the birth of my first daughter. I'm concerned that I'm going to end up with PPD again.

I had DD2 on Dec. 3, and on the same day my mother passed away. I have been extremely emotional because of this. I haven't noticed any issues in bonding with DD2, but I am worried about it creeping up on me again.

If you've had PPD once, does it mean that you'll get it again? Should I start planning for it just in case?

Re: Just a quick introduction

  • Congrats on DD2 and I'm so very sorry about your mother.  This is a lot to handle for anyone, regardless of possible PPD.

To answer your question, it doesn't mean you will get it again.  They say your chances are higher, but it isn't a definite.  It is scary though...I have the same fear, which is why I haven't had #2 yet.  We are going to though and this is a fear.  I say you are smarter now then you were 16 years ago.  You can recognize signs and know how to help yourself this time.  Who to call, when to call, meds, drs, etc...  This is what I'm hoping for anyway.  I would plan for it to be safe.  Have everything lined up in case you need to get help.  That way it is less stressful if it does happen.
Have you read into placental encapsulation??  I'm def. going to try it!  Worth a shot to me.
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...
Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1).
Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!
