Note to self (breastfeeding mommas)....

So I have recently discovered that eating anything tomato based makes for one very unhappy LO! She gets gassy and fussy and spits up what little she does manage to eat and is miserable for a day. *sigh* I just hope she sleeps tonight. Has anyone else discovered foods they have to avoid while breastfeeding?

  • How long after eating tomatoes did your LO start acting fussy?

L was particularly fussy last night, and I'm trying to figure out if it correlates to food or not.

I have eaten something tomato based (spaghetti sauce and a Heinz 57 based marinade) twice. I ate both things for dinner and then all day the next day she was gassy, fussy and miserable and not able to keep much food down. Both days I ended up sitting with her all day in the rocker trying to feed her and calm her between feedings. It makes for a really long day. The day after the marinade (today) wasn't as bad as the day after the spaghetti sauce (that was last week). Eta. Fat fingered the keyboard

  • I can't do broccoli at all. LO was up half the night after I ate it. That's it so far tho.

  • Broccoli went away while pregnant, caffeine is still a no go for us, and peanut butter is going... She gets a rash and acts like food is horrible if I have had more tgan a tablespoon of peanut butter. I am hoping it's not a nut allergy. I don't eat nuts because I don't like them but I do like peanut butter... It has given me heartburn since pregnancy started.
  • You JUST reminded me...I had Old El Paso Tacos for dinner and DD hadn't slept well yesterday.

Geez, now I feel like an arse.

  • Raw tomatoes? Or cooked/stewed tomatoes?
Haven't found anything that she is sensitive to yet, but nbd if she ends up sensitive/allergic to anything. Ds2 had horrid food allergies with eczema and we had to eliminate the top 10 (usually called the top 8).

I had to stop eating anything with peanuts.  LO broke out with a reaction after I ate a bag of trail mix.  Had to throw away all milk that I pumped for the next day...

  • Our first week home my husband made spicy tacos and I threw some extra hot franks on mine and poor LO was up alllll night screaming and then ended up with a raw bum. My first mom fail. I've obviously cut out anything spicy since then.
We seem to be fine with everything else.
  • I've had to give up dairy. Unfortunately, I have a top drawer in the freezer full of breast milk starting from a month ago, and I eliminated dairy a week and a half ago or so. I'm not sure I can bring myself to throw it all out. :-<

  • I can't figure out what our sons issue is but he gets fussy unless he is asleep or eating. I cut out spicy but have a little caffeine. No I'm resorting to decaf and I'll try the cutting out diary and tomato based food

I don't know that I could throw it out either. Maybe this will help:

  • Chili was a regrettable decision over here. But tomatoes don't seem to be a problem for us.
