Whenever she gets even a tad mad or upset, B pulls her own hair. Sometimes she'll even pull out a few strands. I try to redirect her but it happens at least a dozen times a day. Anyone else dealing with this?
Im praying that this is just a phase. I try to hand her one of her dolls and rub its head and saw "awwww gentle" then she rubs it and says "awwww" too. Then I'll rub her hair and say the same. Hoping that maybe this will help. I try not to tell her no or scold her for it because I'm terrified that will just make it worse.
Leo doesn't do that, but he hits himself on the head--not so much when he's angry, I think just for attention. I also just try to say gentle, and then ignore, so he doesn't get more attention for doing it.,
Emma does it to herself when she is mad sometimes. She plays/twirls her hair when she is tired. She often pulls mine or others hair when playing. Sometimes I think she is hair obsessed. When everyone was discussing the disorder about pulling out ones own hair I began to get concerned. I hope she doesn't do that too.
As one who confessed to pulling my hair, I just want to put you ladies at ease! You honestly have nothing to worry about. I think the pedi will tell you that it's an annoying phase. Trich is genetic mostly and typically starts later in life, and sometimes triggered by a traumatic event.
On another related note, I used to babysit a girl who would pull handfuls of hair out and it was heartbreaking. She is 16 now with a beautiful head of hair and doesn't have pulling issues. Just my experience, but I'm positive that your girls will grow out of it soon, and I think you're handling it perfectly.
Re: Hair pulling.
Edit - typo
Eta @chricast that is exactly what I'm worried about. It only happens when she's upset tho. She goes right for her hair. It breaks my heart.
