January 2014 Moms

I know numbers don't mean anything but..

Ok ok I know numbers really don't mean anything but I had my step b test this am & dr checked me. I'm 1/2 a centimeter. I know I could be this way for weeks & I probably jinxed myself & will go late but with my girls I was still at a 0 after hours Of labor. One nurse told me I was closed like Fort Knox with my oldest, my water had been broke for 9 hours at that point. It's iust exciting to hear I am actually dilating without pitocin for once. 37 weeks tomorrow. If I were on my phone I would post caramels or cookies for you.

Re: I know numbers don't mean anything but..

  • Fort Knox, that's exactly how my OB and I describe my cervix too, haha.

  • Loading the player...
  • I had a friend whose OB said her cervix was so closed you couldn't hammer a nail into it. Really?

  • I remember when I was told that with my first I wanted to laugh & cry. I thought it was funny but then realized if baby didn't start doing something on her own I was looking at an c section. Maybe this little fella isn't as stubborn as his sisters :) I do hope he stays in a bit longer though. His sisters birthday is the 23rd & id like to at least make it past that

I'm jealous. My ob decided to give me a cervical check and said it was so high up that she was basically reaching to my tonsils. Needless to say it is super closed.

  • @Susieandmarty I just laughed out loud. Glad I am home alone. My ob has little hands so I am glad she could feel mine.

  • Ugh I'm hoping i'm progressing with all the pains I'm having. I had 0 progression on my own with DD#1 and I was at 41 weeks.  I'm hoping I get to go naturally with this baby to have that experience! I'm sure it's exciting to hear you at least have SOME movement!

@MrsGraham06- just thinking about that makes me cringe..very bad analogy for her OB!

  • Yeah. I was not thrilled with the analogy but it made me giggle too. I'm not surprised I'm only 34 weeks - they just were down there checking something else - so why not right? With dd my water broke and needed pitocin. Because I was only dilated to one. Hopefully not the case this time - I'm already majorly impatient

  • I would be excited about the 1/2 cm too after your previous experience! Good news!

  • Is it sad or crazy that I am sort of excited for my Drs appt on Friday for my Group B Strep test and cervical check?!  I know it doesn't mean anything if I am dilated this early at 36 weeks but I just want know what's going on down there!

  • I had my 38w appt today. I was 1.5 cm last week & this week she said I was about the same, but is going to say I am at 2 just so I can feel better after all the pain I have been having. I like her sense of humor :)  It was a painful weekend. I really expected more. I'll settle for beign 2 cm 50% effaced for now since I want him to hang out another week and a half at least anyway! :)

  • That was nice of her :) this weekend I kept feeling stuff going on down there so I hoped I was making some progress. I'm 60% effaced I usually thin out pretty quickly. I just never dilate.

  • I know it means nothing, but my OB didn't check me at today's 37 week appt, but last week when she did check she said that my cervix was "very soft" and that I was "starting to dilate". Way to be vague. Boo.

I have mine tomorrow and I'm not excited. I've been telling everyone this baby is still at my ribs and has no interest in moving toward the exit. I'll be surprised if I hear anything different tomorrow!
@LuGal623 I don't think that's crazy haha. I'm not sure I'd say I'm "excited" for my internal on Thursday but I can definitely appreciate wanting to know where you stand. I just like to know all the things!!

@sapatel1 Don't let that get you down (yet)! :) I felt cramped up high with my last pregnancy until right around 37 weeks and then BOOM he just dropped and I was in waddle city for the last 2 weeks I was pregnant. Went into labor 3 days before my EDD. Also, one of my close friends had a very high transverse baby her first pregnancy and her OB kept swearing they'd need to do a C-section and she went into labor right on her due date and baby was head down. Things can change in a day! (They can also change back the next but I still think it's too early to get discouraged by your LO's position quite yet haha.)

  • I had the same thing today! Just a "fingertip" dilated. Big whoop! Here's to hoping we both progress super fast the next few weeks! I want this baby on this years deductible dang it!
  • I definitely understand, OP. With DS I was induced just shy of 38w and had zero progress across the board at the start. This time, at 37w3d I'm 3cm and 70% effaced. Not much else going on, and I know I can walk around like this for weeks. But it excites me and makes me happy to know that my body is at least doing something on its own.

  • I remember being excited that I was at 2cm with DD at 39 weeks. Then, at 40 weeks I was barely 1cm. I left that appt so mad and confused. Little did I know that after being induced I would be stuck at 3cm for 25 hours, all while on pitocin. I only ever dilated (past 3cm) after getting an epi.

    Ugh, labor.

  • I just got back from my doc appt and she told me I am 1 cm and 25% effaced!! I am ecstatic! As I mentioned earlier with my first I was having contractions all the time but NEVER progressed until I post induction at 41 weeks.  I could have jumped up and down for joy when she said I've progressed some already. It gives me hope that I might get to go on my own this time! I totally get where you are coming from.

They told me the same thing yesterday. What does that even mean? I assumed it was her nice way of letting me know nothing is really happening just yet.

I had my first one yesterday (37w today) and my Dr said "Well no wonder you feel like he's falling out. 3cm dilated and about 80% effaced". I am trying so hard to be reasonable and keep reminding myself I can stay here for weeks, but I can't help but be really excited/anxious/hopeful on the inside that things are progressing. Dr said she would be shocked if I made it to January, though!

Husband funny. I sent him a message to update him, and he basically thought I was in labor. I had to explain that LO could come any day or we could sit here for weeks and he goes "Oh. So no specific day?" What?! No, dummy. I don't exactly get a singing telegram notifying me ahead of time. FTD problems.

  • @megngregk: How exciting! While it's true that you COULD stay where you are for quite a while, it has to feel great to know that you're making progress on your own! :)

What an adorable FTD response. My husband asks me daily, "So, are you going to have the baby today?" He must think that communication is possible via the umbilical cord or something. Men...
