PAIFer with a Stroller ?

Hi ladies!
Hope you don't mind me popping over here and picking your brains a bit.
H and I are trying to figure out what to get for a travel system for LO and I saw the Eddie Bauer Trail Hiker 3 wheel system at tar.get today on clearance for about half the listed price. We are going to go back tomorrow and test drive it to see if we really like it but would love to hear from anyone who has it and loves/hates it! If we end up liking it, it just seems like too good a deal to pass up(even though we haven't even registered yet!) but I have seen some mixed reviews, too.

Any words of wisdom? Any other suggestions? We are both sort of lost when it comes to picking out anything for baby so any advice is welcome! TIA!

  • Congrats! We have the city mini. I've heard really mixed reviews on travel systems (we only researched the chicco since that is our Carseat). Feedback is the travel system is bulky and awkward.

That being said, I don't know anything about the jeep stroller. The right stroller depends on how you plan to use it! We walk the beloved pooch 2x day. She isn't a path walker, rather a blaze a trail kind of girl. We needed something that was balanced and a bit rugged, but could fold down nicely into my hatchback.

Test drive, but also practice folding down and lifting. Have fun! Half price sounds like a steal!

  • We also have the City Mini.  But like @Mrs.AmyDylan said, try folding it up and opening it one handed.  I can hold DS and open or close the City Mini with my free hand, it's light and easy to use.  Good luck to you!

  • We have the City Mini GT, but we didn't even buy it until DS was 7 months old.  For the first 7 months, we just used the Graco snap-n-Go.

I didn't want to spend $$$ on a stroller so far in advance, as I wasn't exactly sure which brand/style/kind I really needed.  AFter M was born and had some months to ponder over it, we decided the GT fit our lifestyle the best.  When it's not snowing/freezing out, we go out for walks a lot, on a bike path (parts unpaved), so the GT was perfect.

OTOH, if someone is mostly looking for a stroller to push around in a mall or store, and only gets used occasionally, I'd recommend getting something cheaper.

I also got an el cheapo umbrella stroller for free (via CL).  This we use for quick runs to the mall/shop.  Lately, it has served as a push toy for DS so he can walk around in the mall (he can't walk independently yet but he can cruise well pushing the umbrella stroller).

I don't have the City Mini, but I totally agree with the bolded. We gave away our travel system from DS becuase it was such a pain to try to use one handed I REFUSE to use it this time around.

  • Do you plan on using your stroller for trails and bumpy terrain? Serious jogging? Do you only want one stroller? If that applies to you, the BOB Revolution SE is amazing! It can handle terrain, the front wheel can swivel for jogging or turn freely for use inside. There is an adaptor bar got an infant seat available. It is pricey, and heavy, but it's FABULOUS!

  • I dont have much input on the stroller you saw but Im a big fan of the CHICCO travel system.

  • My best advice is to just get a snap n go with an infant seat to start out. Get the safest car seat. Then get the stroller you like best without worrying about which makes the best travel system. The SNG is so light and easy at the beginning. We used the single SNG for around 9 months with DS and are still using our double SNG for K&A. We are now looking at which double/triple strollers we like best, but it is nice to make that decision without it being tied into the car seat decision. Also, you will learn a ton about what you like in a stroller after you have LO and use one every day. Congratulations and GL!

  • I have the double baby jogger city mini GT and it is wonderful! I was pretty limited because I wanted a double, side by side stroller, but the BJCM won out. For me, it was essential that I be able to put it in my car without trouble and BJ really knows what they are doing. When they were in the car seat phase, we used a (double) snap n go. Again, my choices were really limited, but it was nice to buy something cheap and small for those days when they could still sleep in public and I didn't want to take them out of car seats.

  • We got the Chicco keyfit travel system. I know a lot of people say they don't like travel systems, but it really was nice. Not too heavy or big to throw in the car or to take on the bus. It is easy to push up a hill at the park and sturdy.

Now we are using the Joovy Caboose sit and stand which is way heavier and harder to turn, but it works well with a 2 1/2 year old and a newborn. And it was in our budget.
IVF, acupuncture, meditation and a miracle.

  • Thanks so much ladies! You have really given me a lot to consider, especially the one-handed fold up! I would have never thought to try it out. I really didn't mean to post and run yesterday but work got a little crazy and I couldn't get back on, sorry!

@kmc84 we actually were looking at the BOB system online! But without being able to test it out ourselves(cant find it in a store yet) we didn't know if it was worth the big bucks or not. Glad to hear it is working out for you!

I will definitely check out the City Mini, too!

I *think* that eventually we would like to have a jogger and a little umbrella stroller for quick trips when LO is bigger, but who knows if that will actually be the case when LO actually gets here, lol.

This is exactly what I have. City Mini with Chico carseat. It's light, and easy to handle. Only thing I would do differently if I really wanted to hike - because we took it a few times..go a step up and getting the jogging version with the much bigger wheels. Expensive but love it
