Elective Ultrasound WWYD?

So here's my dilemma:  Originally my doc wanted to schedule my anatomy scan for the first week of January, but I am going to be out of state so he pushed it back another week.  The only appointment openings they had were for the middle of the week, during the day.  My husband and I both go back to work that week and are both already taking off that Friday for a 5K we are doing.  DH cannot take off two days in one week, especially being the first week back to work after our winter break.  If I keep my appointment for that week, he won't be there for the ultrasound/sex reveal.  I did some looking around and found a place right in our neighborhood that does elective ultrasounds for $50 and we could go in next week.  Since we are both off work, we can go in any time and find out together.  DH thinks it's a waste of money, but I really want to find out together.  I know I could have my doc write it down and we could open it when DH gets home from work, but I worry that I will see/hear something revealing at the ultrasound.  I'm willing to spend the money to find out together.  What would you ladies do?

    Can you just see if you can push the ultrasound with your Dr back another week? I would rather save that money to prepare for the baby IMO.

    I asked about pushing it back and he said no since it's already a week later than he wants to see me.  I also asked about coming in a couple days before I leave to go out of town and they told me it would be too early.

    I think it depends on how sentimental you and DH are. If you are both sentimental then, pay the $50 and do the one that fits your schedule.

    Otherwise, tell the tech you want to find out with your DH. They are really pretty good at keeping you from seeing things.

    I think it's completely up to you.  Honestly, Dh and I just paid $94 yesterday for an elective ultrasound.  We found out we're having a boy.  Dh didn't realize it was going to cost that much (ooops) but afterwards said it was worth it.  It was also our 8th wedding anniversary so that was our present.  We'll have the A/S sometime in January as well.

    Te techs are really good at not slipping up if you ask them. I've done it that way twice. Also, how early would you be if you went ahead? I had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks with my son and am having at 18 weeks this time too.

    TTC #1 4/09-3/10, dx PCOS, 5th round clomid BFP 3/27/10, Nolan Lee, 11/13/10, PROM 36 weeks
    TTC #2 6/12-3/13, natural BFP 3/24/13, TWINS
    MC first twin at 11weeks, MC/preterm labor second twin, DD at 15weeks, 6/7/13
    BFP 9/21/13, EDD 6/5/13!!  It's a GIRL

    Could you ask the tech to write it down and then you and DH can look together later? Honestly, there's no guarantee you will know the gender anyway. My last u/s the tech was able to clearly see that baby b was a girl but baby a was breach and sitting on its feet with its cord between its legs right on my cervix. The tech tried several times but just could not see anything. So baby a remains a mystery.

    I'm going for an Elective U/S this Sunday. We want to find out the sex prior to Christmas. This is our first baby so we are so excited, its our Christmas present to us.

    DH and I did an elective ultrasound earlier this week, I think it was definitely worth it! And we found out we are having a boy!

    I am having a elective ultrasound tomorrow. It's $59 and I cannot wait. This is my third and final baby and I really wanted to know before Christmas. My husband doesn't come to any of my regular apts but he has always come with me for ultrasounds. I wouldn't want him to miss seeing the baby on the tv but that's just me. I would pay the $50 and experience it together if it was important to me.

    Thanks for all your responses ladies!  I think we are going to go ahead and do it.  I put it to husband this way:  Would you rather take the day off work or pay the $50 and he said pay the $50, so I'm sold!
