So, this may just be super weird of me...

I am really considering registering for a toddler bed rather than a crib. I have a perfectly good crib but my 2 year old is ready to move to a toddler bed (she is in the crib with the front taken off right now). Would that just be super weird for me to register for that?

Do you mean for a completion coupon?

I don't know what that is.

  • Most places send you a coupon as you near your due date for a percentage off items remaining on your registry. I'm assuming she said that because generally it's considered bad etiquette to have showers after the first baby.

    Yes - this.

Ahh, I see. Well I guess that would be a good reason to have one in my registry. I'm not expecting to have a shower unless my immediate family does a small one. I am creating a registry because I have a lot of extended family that would like to help and I would like for them to know what we need this time around without having to delegate via multiple emails. For instance, my mother lives six hours away and I know she will want to get something for us even if we don't have a shower.
  • I don't know how "sprinkles" (is that what they're called?!) really work, but I think you'd register for the baby, not the toddler, you know?

What are sprinkles? I am feeling very out of touch lol
  • Thanks. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't too off the wall. The one I like is only 100$. Actually my daughter picked it haha.
Anyone else on baby #2 (or more!) creating a registry this time?

Haha, I'm not entirely sure! I thought that's what you called a baby shower for a second baby. But I see what you're saying now about doing a registry. My family has been hounding me to see what I want too (sort of like a "wish list"!). I say put it on there and use the completion coupon later :)

    Definitely not..

I am. This is 2 and 3 for us. I'm not expecting a shower and will not be sharing my registry unless someone asks, I'm just doing it for the gifts/coupons you get when registering and the completion coupon at the end.

  • I'm on baby #2 and made another registry for the completion discount later. If anyone asks, like family, then I'll tell them, but I'm not going to spread the word on purpose.
  • From my understanding a sprinkle is just like a baby shower but little items are given not cribs, pak n plays, swings etc... More like diapers, an outfit, bottles, smaller items because the mother to be prob has all the big items already.
My family loves get togethers and my mom has said she wants to do a sprinkle for this baby and it will be baby #2. I'm fine with it I love getting together and seeing everyone.
I don't think I will be doing a registry but if I do it would be to get the free $10 gift card at target and the goodie bag from babies r us!

This^^ sprinkles are for little items, especially if you have the opposite sex from your previous child. Personally I think a shower for a second baby is tacky. If I am invited and it's a full out second shower I do not attend or send a gift. Especially if it's within a few years of the last child! (I have had a cousin do that with back to back boys a year and a half apart)

I'm doing a small amazon one just for the completion coupon. It's completely private and nobody can see it except us. I am NOT sharing it and am not expecting a shower or anything. It's mainly a way for me to keep track of what I need.

This^  and if family ask, we'll probably tell them that we have one but I don't expect anyone except maybe MIL to ask.

Also, not sure of your DD's age, but have you thought of something more long term for her, like a twin bed?  toddler beds don't really last that long, plus when new baby needs a toddler bed, you'll just have the crib (unless you are planning a #3 I suppose).  Buying a toddler bed, you're spending $100 now on something that you will only use for like a year then need to get a twin anyway.

We're moving DD from toddler bed (converted crib) to a twin within the next month.

I totally was going to say this too. I am planning on going straight to the twin bed to free up the convertible for the new baby. The only reason I haven't done it yet is we are moving so I want him to at least have a little adjustment to his new room in a familiar bed before I change things out. Otherwise at 2 a twin bed should work well and save you buying an extra bed. If you are worried about him/her rolling out you could start with just the mattress on the floor for a few days to see if you need bed rails or not.

  • I never realized the baby showers after the first were bad etiquette!

It doesn't matter to me though. My friends are throwing me one (#3) and I couldn't tell them it was bad etiquette or not. They dont care. They just want to party;-) food and chitchat. Any excuse.

I think you should register for whatever you need. People could help you purchase a cheap toddler bed or an expensive crib that you already have. Makes sense to me;-)
