Someone fired an arrow at a house a few doors down from me

WTF? Just got a neighborhood bulletin and a neighbor about 5-6 doors down from me found an ARROW embedded in the siding of their house...like someone fired it with a freaking bow and arrow. This is not Hunger Games people? WTF?

I'm kind of freaked out, who does that?

  • Uhh WTF indeed!

  • Loading the player...

lol, that is a little strange!  Did someone miss Bambi and hit the house instead?

ETA: or maybe they were trying out for Walking Dead???  (my hubby got a comp. bow and my dad got a crossbow so they could pretend they're in Walking Dead ... because they're big dorks).

  • When DH was working in the backyard a few months back, he found a "play" arrow stuck in the ground. Not like a real one, but still… we have two fur babies that love to hang out back there. If they were to get hit by something like that, whoever did it would be getting acquainted with my foot in their ass. Not cool.

Be careful and keep an eye out for your human/furbabies.
  • WTF?  Who does that? Are you in a tight residential neighbourhood? Or is a little more rural?

  • Sounds like someone was trying out a Hannukah or early Christmas present a  la "A Christmas Story?"

Well, Walking dead IS filmed in Atlanta, but not around here. There are lots of deer around here though.

  • @Kaleigh1289 I'd love to see you try to carry that concealed....

I mean, my husband practices with the bow in the back yard occasionally, but we have a really wide yard and we make sure he talks to the neighbors before he does it so no kids or dogs are out (only one neighbor has kids, all of them have dogs). He's never even come close to having one land outside our yard, let alone go wild enough to hit a neighbor's house!

  • My DH works with DD in our back yard shooting her bow and arrows (not with hunting tips though)... then BIL shot one and it ended up on our neighbors roof and fell into their pool.  He had to go sheepishly ask for it back.

AND - thy actually did a story here a few weeks ago that since Hunger Games, the popularity of archery has increased significantly.

  • We target practice with our bows in the yard, but we have a pretty good sized yard with a greenbelt behind us. And, have never had an arrow go through the fence or anywhere besides the target. It sounds like that's what someone was doing, but they were way, way off.

  • @rowanthefrog sounds awesome! i've been looking for groups around here since i know so few moms!
  • What kind of arrow?  Blunt?  Target point?  Field point/broadhead?  If it's the last one, I'd be worried.  Otherwise, I imagine it's kids messing around.  And landing in a building means probably not shot AT anyone.

I don't know but it went through the cedar siding of the house and embedded in the insulation.

  • I was going to ask where you live but yes it is weird in typical suburbia. In my neighborhood it's legal to hunt in the backyards with bows and arrows with a license during hunting season (we have deer, wild turkeys, etc.). But that's because all yards are 1/2 acre+. There is a minimum requirement of distance to neighbors to be able to use them.
The guy who offered to hunt in my yard and share the meat (I declined... for now) mentioned that because of the Hunger Games the sports stores are selling out of bow supplies like crazy. Could be some teens got a hold of some through less than dependable channels. Then freaked when they shot it and saw these are actual weapons.

  • I was gonna say, with the new Hunger Games movie out..teens and adults may be influenced to try shooting. That is really scary.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Ah, if it went clear through the siding, it's probably a sharpened target point (narrow-gauge.)  Standard-issue target points won't penetrate wood, and broadhead hunting arrows wouldn't go that deep unless someone was using a really heavy bow.

Now, WHY someone was fooling around with that outdoors, I can't say.
  • That is totally bizarre!
