January 2014 Moms

Just because I want something to read….

Bed rest gets old and boring.. I need something fun to read.  Plus, I personally LOVE pretending like I could be insanely rich and I LOVE to dream about all the wonderful things I would buy if I were that rich…

I know many of you have noticed that the Mega Millions is at 586 million dollars right now… Crazy!! Did you buy tickets? Let's pretend you won… What are the fun things you would do with the money???

I know this has nothing to do with babies or bumps, but like I said, I need something to read!!

  • DH is planning on getting some today!  We always said if we ever hit it big we'd sell everything and buy a yatch and just sail the world.  Not sure thats still the case, but if not, we'd look into moving to St Croix or something for sure.

An excellent choice. DH and I went there for our honeymoon and ever since then he has been saying "Let's move to St. Croix! Everyone is so happy and the weather is awesome. We could buy a sailboat and do booze cruises!"

  • Pay off our house, move closer to my hometown (build a custom home), buy a small modern log cabin in upstate NY near in laws, pay off close family's homes and debts, buy a home in an exotic location, put money in kids' college funds, invest a little in Disney and Apple stocks, donate some to a charity in kids' names......
    I haven't thought about it before..... :p

  • With that kind of money, I can barely imagine. We are debt free, but I'd get DH a new car. It's got 200K+ miles on it. We'd pay off our parent's debts and set them up. College funds for the kids. A Disney time share. We'd buy a hunting cabin and some property out west for my H to hunt in. Donate to our alma mater and also to various children's disease funds.

  • Get us both better vehicles, pay off the bit of debt we have, move to the city we want to live in (where H's family lives), and buy a house. Put a bunch away for retirement and our kids' schooling. Travel, donate, and give some to our siblings to help them get ahead (towards school or down payments or debt, etc.). Set an amount aside to just have fun and splurge guilt-free. I'd probably also hire a weekly cleaner to do all the chores I hate! And I'd let H buy the biggest TV he wants.
  • We would buy a house and decorate it, buy our cabin in WA, do something big for both sets of parents, and take a giant vacation to Disney World. Save some for both kiddos, set some aside for us. We would definitely donate some. Both of us have always wanted to go to Ireland and Germany so travel.
  • Obviously pay off debts (not much left, basically just house and student loans).
Build a new house on our current property.
Buy new vehicles. We've talked about this plenty- we'd each have a van, he'd have a luxury sedan, I'd have something sporty and red, we'd have a truck (a "real" truck, not a wussy truck), buy a tractor or 2, and get my parents a van.
I'd be getting a spa day once a week.
Maybe hire tutors for our kids? Take them out of public school.
DH's business would get up and running in about 2 weeks. It's going slow because they don't have any money going into it.
    We would travel.
If there's anything left over, get my pilot's license, buy a plane and build a hangar for it in my hometown.

  • I'd give money to my grandmother to repay her for letting me live with them so long. Then I'd pay off me and DH's student loans/hospital debts, and get us a nice car (with heat that actually works). Then we'd buy a house and I'm not sure what we'd do with the rest. Probably go on a nice vacation after LO gets here and then just wait and see with the rest.

  • I would find Sallie Mae herself, cut a check, and tell her to f##k off for starters. :)

  • OOOOO! I like this! Without a doubt, the first thing DH and I would do is pay off my student loan. Even though it's under $30,000, it drives us nuts! Yes, we're in the Dave Ramsey Debt Snowball boat. A close second would be to buy/build our dream house.

Aside from the regular saving/retirement/setting up the parents/college for the kid(s), I think I actually would like to go back to school. Oddly enough, as much as I don't use/like my degree, I loved college and really wished I would have gone for something else.

I'd also love to do a crap load of random acts of kindness.

Travel the world! Take my hubby to Rome. I loved it there.

And you better bet your ass I'd quit my job and open my own restaurant after going to culinary school. I love to cook and bake!

  • I completely agree with pay off house debt and families house debt, beef up retirement and kids college funds and do some traveling.
DH would still work though (I just know him-he'd miss his job too much) and I would pay for stupid things like a permanent cleaning lady and regular trips to nail place and massages. Other than that, not much would change.
  • Lol so did anyone win anything? DH and I got a grand total of two dollars. And it only cost us six dollars to get :p
