Where do you shop for your kid's clothes and why?

Do you wait to take advantage of deals like Gymbucks or just shop at Target for example when things are on sale. I am just starting to budget for clothes for three kids and I was curious as to where you shop and why. Do you shop where you shop for discounts/peak sales times or just due to style/quality?

Re: Where do you shop for your kid's clothes and why?

  • We get a lot of hand me downs from cousins.

I shop Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl, TJ Max, Chilren's Place, Old Navy, Justice or maybe JC Penny.

It all depends on the needs.

  • I shop around. The kids clothes come from Target, Kohls, Macy's, Carter's, etc.

Usually Wal Mart, we grocery shop there so I always see the cute clothes when we go through the baby section. I really like their Garanimals line for DS. ETA I get a lot in the summer at garage sales, we have had great luck with them the last two years.

  • I shop at old navy, target, childrens place, kohls or penneys just usually whenever the kids may need something. But I do check for coupons or sales before I go.

  • I usually shop at Carters, Kohls, and Old Navy.  I have just started getting into Once Upon a Child and Mom to Mom sales.

I like Carters clothes because they hold up well.  I always know my kids' sizes in them, and it doesn't vary.  I am also pretty good with getting clothes at their 50% off sale with another 20% or 30% off.

I like Kohls for Carters and their Jumping Bean brand for play clothes.  They are reasonably priced.  I also like the cotton summer shorts.  My DS is very picky about the softness of his clothes.

Whatever I don't find at Carters/Kohls, I can usually find at Old Navy.  I like their khaki pants and corduroys in winter.  I think their cotton tops fade a lot.

I rarely have luck at Target, I think their clothes are overpriced for the quality.  I sometimes like the Cherokee brand, but can find it cheaper at JCPenney.  I have never found a good deal at Gymboree and have given up.  The same goes for Gap.  I cannot figure out the sizing at TCP.

As for Once Upon a Child, I love that they are always selling what is in season.  I was just in Carters last week and they have summer jumpers.  My son inevitably changes sizes at the end of a season, and the stores are already into their next season.  I also like them for dresses for DD.  We go to church every week, so we need dress clothes.  I have less there luck finding stuff for DS.  I just don't think boy "dress" all that much.  I end up having to pay a lot for DS's dress clothes, but can find dresses for DD for a steal.

  • Usually Gap and Old Navy because they have good basics, I can shop online and I get lots of 40% off coupons. We have a Kid to Kid consignment store I check out on occasion and I will pick up some filler items at Marshall's

  • uhhh Target sale rack rocks!

I also love Gymboree, Old Navy, Burlington, and Kmart.
  • The huge JBF consignment sales. Everything they take looks new and clean. I can resell it. I basically paid for clothes once and just trade for new sizes each season by reselling and buying other people's in the bigger size. I accept all hand me downs from my sister too. Most of my kids' clothes are name brand too.

I have splurged a couple times on things from Nordstrom and Janie & Jack.

Target, Gymboree, crazy 8, old navy, gap, Carter's ,

I just buy what I like and shop sales so I never pay too much

  • I get a ton of hand me downs, but otherwise I shop mostly at ON. I like the style and I always have rewards and coupons, so it's easy to spend very little. I'll do Walmart and Target if need be.

  • Primarily Crewcuts, Boden, Gap, and Nordstrom. My kids have gotten crazy-hard on clothes as they've gotten older, so anymore I only buy brands that have proven to hold up well. I'd rather pay more and be able to pass something along from DS#1 to DS#2 than buy cheap clothes that I have to trash after a season.
  • I shop based on what I like, quality and price.  We get a lot from Gap, Children's Place, Osh Kosh and Target.  DS#2 has a ton of Gymboree hand-me-downs from a friend, but I usually don't find enough there that I like.  For jeans, I like GAP usually.  Everything else is a mix.

  • Old navy, Gap, Crewcuts, TCP for basics and Gymboree. I never pay for anything full price. Coupon codes and sales for everything unless I'm in a pinch for something.
  • Mostly Mini Boden, Crewcuts, Tea, Gap, and Nordstrom.  I find that a lot of girl clothes are really tacky and cheap looking and not age appropriate, so I usually have to spend more to find cute clothes.  The majority of her clothes are from Crewcuts - I like them and so does she. DS is a bit easier to shop for, but he's really rough on his clothes and needs some that are really durable.

  • Mostly Carter's/Osh Kosh because the clothes are cute and cheap, and it's the closest kid's clothing store to us. I also like Old Navy, they have great sales. More rarely I'll check out Gymboree, Joe Fresh, and the Gap... but, while I've occasionally found a good price, I'm generally disappointed.

  • I am also trying to manage kid's clothes shopping. Right now I mainly shop at Old Navy and Carter's, both online, because they always seem to have what I need and some sort of code/free shipping. I have a Kohl's and Target nearby so shop there too. I bought holiday outfits from Children's Place this year. I do hit up the JBF sales too and have found a few things there.

I shop around and pick up things as I find cute stuff. I am not really loyal to any one store. I have items from: JCP, Crazy 8s, Baby Gap, TCP, Ralph Lauren outlet... Every so often I find something cute from Target, Macy's, Kohls, Sears, kids consignment sales, Old Navy, but not as much as the previously mentioned places.

  • Gap, Gymboree, Janie and Jack, and Boden because the clothes are cute and well made. I think of lot of children's clothes are tacky and cheap looking and don't hold up as well.

I do some buying (and selling) on Ebay and also buy new, but there are sales all the time.

  • I don't know if you can buy it in the states, but most of DD's clothes are from United Colors of Benetton. The style is not extremely childish and the quality is great!

  • I really only shop Old Navy and Target. I just prefer them :)

  • Gap, Target, Gymboree, Carters.  I'm very frugal with sales and coupons but I try to get quality stuff that will last to be handed down.  Ive found that Old Navy doesnt last many washings so I dont shop there any more.

Oh how I loved Benetton when I was a kid. We had one in Dallas growing up. Not sure if they are still around, but I wore a ton in my tween years.

  • JcPenney, Carter's, Target, and on occasion Old Navy and Gymboree. I search garage sales, but as they get into the bigger sizes there's not much in good condition.

  • Gymboree mostly.  I also buy shoes mostly at Once Upon A CHild… I get stride rites for $10.  However, their name brand clothes like Gap and Gymboree are still 7 bucks a piece, and I can usually find discount at Gymboree for that new or less.  I don't buy him any toys or anything he doesn't need and that's a big cost savings.  So far in his 15 months, I think I have bought him $20 worth of toys and $150 worth of clothes.
  • Target, H&M, GAP.  Almost always on sale!
    O 10.08 & MJ 6.10
  • Mostly Gymboree and Hanna Andersson.  I shop at these places because my daughter will only wear dresses and leggings or tights.  I like the selection and the convenience of their location. When she was younger, I bought a lot at Carter's, the Gap, and Janie&Jack.
  • Mostly Carter's and Gap.  Carter's because I always know his size and they stand up really well to his crawling on everything, and they have some kick-ass sales.  Gap (and Old Navy, but I seem to find more at Gap for DS, Old Navy is more for me lol) because I have an ON credit card and get all kinds of coupons and they have some really awesome sales every two or so months.

My kids' stuff is mostly from The Children's Place.  It's inexpensive, they have free- shipping very often, and the clothes are decent as far as quality and cute-ness.  I have boys, so it's really basic stuff - jeans and t-shirts.   Occasionally I will go to Once Upon A Child that's right up the street.

Now that DS#1 is well into school and activities...he's gotten a lot of shirts from the dance studio, from his races, school, ect.  I know *casual* is not everyone's cup of tea but I have no issue with him wearing these t-shirts to school or where-ever.  So those factor into his wardrobe as well...

  • Carter's, crewcuts, and Children's place for both of them. DD also has a lot of clothes from Gymboree. We both love their clothes. I always wait until they are on sale, I have a coupon, or shop the outlet near us. DS prefers athletic type pants and t-shirts. He has some Nike stuff that we got at the outlet near is also.

I got Finn a couple of Benetton shirts for kindergarten this year. I don't remember where, exactly, but it was probably either Nordstrom or Little Boy Chic (which I would totally recommend for cute boy clothes, but it's probably NYS).

Also like Tucker + Tate. I got a couple of cotton/cashmere blend sweaters for the boys on clearance, and they're really nice.

    Carter`s
    Old Navy
Gap (only from the sales rack)
Joe (only when home, from Superstore)
DD1 I buy her jeans from a western wear store, as she needs size 9 jeans, but the waist is way to big on her.  She is very tall, but very small boned.
DD3 &4 have the hand me down`s from my niece.  They wear a lot of high end baby clothing, that I did not buy, but was gifted from my SIL.
