Vacation ideas please

DH and I are going to take some kind of low key vacay sometime in Feb/March/April. I need help. We're going to stay in the US. We're not big beach people, but it's still spring so we're hoping for decent-ish weather. We're NOT going to go to Florida, Texas, or Las Vegas. That's about all we have so far. I need your recs please! Bonus points for points of interest that might be fun.

Even if you aren't big beach fans, San Diego is wonderful. The weather is always warm and sunny, and there is so much to do there. The zoo, wild animal park, balboa park with all the museums, sea world etc. Plus lots of night life and great food. Wandering around Coronado is a lot of fun, and if you're into fishing you can take a charter out of the bay for all kinds of fish.

So California, huh? That would be fun, thanks for those recommendations. We went to NYC a few years ago. awesome. But I guess I was thinking it wouldn't be warm enough that north? I'm entertaining the idea of one of the Carolina's, but I know nothing really about them. Anyone have opinions on those for a spring vacation?

I don't know how warm it will be, but Myrtle Beach is nice. But I know you aren't really looking for something beachy.

YES! Outer Banks, NC!

Beautiful beaches (obv you wouldn't be laying on the beach in February, but still nice to rent a place then, cause no one is there), and plenty to do. Cute little towns, aviation museum in Kitty Hawk (where the first flight was), etc.

I would go in late march/early April.

I've always wanted to go to Boston/New England! We've done NYC and DC but not the rest. What's the weather there in March? Still winter? I don't need summer weather, but it'd be great if it was a little nicer than the Midwest in March.

YES! Outer Banks, NC!

I used to live in Norfolk, VA. If you and your DH are interested in history and the sorts, there is some cool stuff. There's a Naval Museum and the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, a beautiful aquarium in Virginia Beach, and just 45 north of Norfolk is Colonial Williamsburg/Jamestown Settlement. Oh and Williamsburg also has Busch Gardens if you like roller coasters.

It never got terribly cold or snowy in the two winters I lived there (it's kind of unpredictable. Sometime it can be quite warm- like 60s or 70s in January. Sometimes a quick snow that melts by the next day). But end of March/April should be mild temps.

I second the Outer Banks. I lived there for 3 yeas so shoot me a message if you have any questions! April/early May is a great time of year to visit. Good weather, no crowds, everything is open!

Maine! It has so much to offer (I'm a bit biased because my husband is from there). Portland is a beautiful small city right on the water. My favorite relaxing spots though are Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor and York. Google images and you'll see how gorgeous. PLUS, how can you go wrong w/ great seafood? ;-)

You'd fly into Norfolk (ORF) and then it's about a 90 minute drive from there. Or you could fly into Raleigh/Durham (RDU) and it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive.

I know you said no beach, but I am just throwing this out there. Once a year we make it down to Indian Pass, FL. It is a little beach community between appalachicola and st. joseph peninsula. The houses are all 300 yards apart with your own beach area. You can look for miles and not see a single person. A 2 bedroom house for a week in March would run about $1500 or so, maybe less. They also allow dogs on the beaches so most houses are dog friendly with a deposit. We absolutely love it, nothing as relaxing. And so much to do outdoors... there is a nature preserve island across the pass and ferrys to take you over for a long bike ride. St. Joseph Peninsula is amazing as well with so much to do. Perfect place to decompress.

That's all I got. We are not well traveled in the US.

I have some family that just got back from their second trip to Jackson Hole Wyoming and they adore it. WV would be great for snow skiing in Feb. I'm not sure where you are located so some of these may be out of reach.

Gatlinburg, TN. In college, we would go there yearly for spring break trips. I'm in Ohio, so usually March is still pretty chilly here and it was noticably warmer down there. I would say for our hikes, we usually wore jeans and fleece jackets. It's great though, you can rent a cabin with a hot tub, enjoy the beautiful views, and explore the town. There's a ton of fun stuff to do.

I agree with @MandJS about the Denver area. Vail is pretty amazing for skiing and snowboarding. The Switzerland of America is in Ouray. Durango is also a beautiful part. All of which I talk of is in CO

D.C. is always fun. I second the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

Arizona in the spring is great for spring training baseball, gorgeous hiking, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, wineries, etc.

DH and I thought about getting married in Sedona. We went to Payson for our honeymoon and it was so pretty there!
