ICE! and a Lone Star Christmas

Ok, so I don't want this to be a call your Dr thread.  I know the thought, if in doubt call your Dr., but this isn't like pain or falling or plugs coming out.
DH and I are visiting my parents in Texas this weekend and we were thinking of going to this exhibit called ICE! which is a convention hall full of ice sculptures and ice slides.  I am not doing the slides.  But my mom thought I might need to call my dr and ask about being in that cold of a room for a couple hours since it isn't something that I am use to.

FAQ from their website:

"I understand ICE! is 9 degrees... What should I wear? All guests are provided calf-length, hooded winter coats to keep them warm. Coats are available in all sizes, including children and infants. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. Hats and gloves are recommended — and are available for purchase. Think Christmas morning in Alaska... and dress accordingly!"

I sort of think my mom is being a little anxious.  Is my mom being overly cautious or am I not worrying enough?

Re: ICE! and a Lone Star Christmas

  • It has been colder than that consistently where I live. You better bet I still go outside! I think the warmth from the baby actually allows me to handle the cold better than usual.

Wear extra layers and leave if you become uncomfortable. Your baby will be fine.

  • I live in the metroplex and have been to that exhibit. If you do not plan on riding the slides, it is really not that long. Wear the coat they provide and take some gloves. I am a big baby when it comes to the cold weather and it really wasnt that bad. We took my son last year when he was around 10 months old. Everyone had a good time. You can walk as fast or slow through the exhibit as you would like. If you get uncomfortable, then leave.

  • Wait, your mom is suggesting you call your Dr to see if it's ok to be in the cold for a few hours? LMAO.  What does she think people in cold climates do? Just not have babies?  And what about before modern heating was invented?!

  • I wouldn't call. We'll be going downtown to look at the outdoor ice sculptures in a few weeks....it's been like 8 degrees outside lately :) wear some gloves and you'll be fine!

  • I live in the area also and familiar with the exhibit. You should be fine, the coats are super insulated, just dress warm and like a PP said, bring gloves. If you get too cold you can always head out but it isn't THAT long and it's pretty awesome!!

  • Thanks everybody. My mom isn't normally overly cautious so it caught me off guard. I think she is just getting more and more excited and nervous about the baby. It's not her first grandchild, my brother and SIL have 2. But I think it's just different since I'm her DD.
  • I went when I was 8 months pregnant with DS2 and had no trouble :)
