Straw Cups

We are having problems getting E to take drinks from anything other than my boobs.  My OB recommends with a new Little on the way, I need to start thinking about weaning.  We've tried half a dozen different cups with sippy lids and he turns his nose up at all of them.  Today, more out of utter frustration than anything else, I found a straw, clipped it to fit one of his little cups (so he wouldn't gag himself jamming the thing down his throat like he LIKES to do) and held it for him.  Wonder of wonders, he actually drank.  So that made me start looking at sippy cups with straws.  Only there are sooo many! Anyone have one they like? Hopefully, one that is still relatively spill proof because his favorite thing to do is throw the cup around the house? I'm thinking of picking one up on Friday and putting it in his Christmas stocking.

Along those lines, how do we train him NOT to tip the straw cups now that we've started to get him to tip regular cups? Do you think he'll just figure this out? I mean, he is a boy, and he's just as pigheaded as his father...

I feel silly even asking these questions.  I mean, I already went through this once WTH? But I never had this issue with DD.  She quit nursing and wanted the bottle instead.  E acts like I'm trying to poison him when I give him the bottle.  >:(

  • I have the same cup as @may10587 too. Got it at buybuybaby and baby loves it! By the way @may10587, that pic is adorable! My DS likes to chew on the handles when I hand the cup to him. Still working on having him hold the cup himself..
  • We switched to a straw cup very early on bc I thought she might like it better...which she did. She realized fairly quickly she didn't need to tip her head anymore but I think at first we held it for her. I'm not sure of the brand.

  • DS is currently on feeding therapy because he has a chewing issue and not moving beyond purées. Our therapist said straw cups (aside from regular cups) are the way to go. Sippy cups teach head tilting, which I never would have thought about!

  • Dd drinks from straw cups. She is getting some for her stocking because now she is just drinking from a plastic cup and our straws
