Gender & U/S ?

I have an u/s next Tuesday (15 weeks, 6 days), and I'm wondering what my chances are for finding out gender. My husband really wants to have our dr write it down, seal it in an envelope & then get to open it Christmas morning, so I'm PRAYING that it works. I know people have found out as early as 14 weeks, but I'm just wondering if it's likely if we can make this happen. Will drinking some orange juice & making them wiggly help my cause? :)

Re: Gender & U/S ?

  • You can never guarantee that babies will cooperate for gender, even at the 20 week A/S. Some babies just seem to be a little more modest and don't want to show off the goods!

However if babies are feeling show-y a skilled tech/doc should be able to tell you what's going on gender-wise!

  • I think it depends a lot on what kind of machine your doctors office is using. I had an u/s at my regular OB at 15w 4 days and they couldn't tell, but 2 days later at the MFM the machine was better and it was very obvious. My boys were moving a ton, so that wasn't an issue for me. There's defintley a chance though, good luck!

  • As pp said- it's all about how good the machine is. The babies should be developed enough to tell. I never had an issue.
If your dr can't see, you could also go get a gender ultrasound at a private clinic. They cost around $100 depending and give you a DVD and a ton of pics. I took my whole family to one for our gender reveal. They had big screens and stadium seating! It's fun but not meant for diagnostic purposes.
  • We could see one of our girls pretty clearly at the 14w ultrasound (3 lines/ hamburger). The tech was pretty confident. The other baby was not cooperative, though, and we couldn't ever get a good shot. The tech made a guess at the 2nd baby which turned out to be correct. Hope you get to find out! What a fun Christmas present!

  • We knew at around 13 weeks that it was more than likely that baby B was a boy and then at 16 weeks when we had our ultrasound they were able to confirm both genders (B still boy and A girl). There is always a chance of error, but our technician was pretty confident so I'm guessing as long as your little ones are cooperative, then you will be able to find out. :)

  • I asked at the 16w scan, but they couldn't tell until my 18w.
  • Mine was at 16w. All of mine were for 8 kiddos. Always correct. We have great u/s machines though. Here are my twins at 16w.
  • we knew at 16 weeks they were boys, and re-confirmed at every ultrasound (i have had them every 2 weeks since 16 weeks).  we also had the tech write it and seal it and opened at home since DH couldn't be with me that day.  i am wondering if we could tell so early because they were boys?  i'd be worried that if they said they were girls there would be room for error?

I found out at 15w1d and it was 100% accurate.
I will say though that we wanted the tech to put it in a sealed envelope so we could open it later that day and find out with out families at a fever reveal party. But she said she couldn't confirm until 16 weeks so she couldn't put results in an envelope. But since she was absolutely positive about the genders she would tell us early.
