when do you pump?

I know these posts were all over a few months ago...but I'm curious now that our milk has (mostly) regulated....do you still pump at the same time? G is going through her 4 month regression, so she eats often in the late night/morning so pumping in the morning isn't getting much. Curious what you were doing...

  • I'm not back to work yet; I pump when B goes down for a nap and after bedtime.

I try for every three hours after whenever our last nursing session was, until I get home to him again.
I was doing this, but when at work I'm not pumping enough to make up for while I'm at work/home. I am unable to pump more often at work because I'm a teacher and don't have class coverage which is frustrating.

  • I'm just working 2 days a week and try to shoot for every 2-2.5, just like he does at home. I'm not pumping enough to keep up with him though, and am really worried that I'm going to have to start supplementing while I'm at work

  • He eats every 3, I pump every 4 while at work. At home I aim for 2x/day. AM & PM.

I pump 3 times a day. In late morning, afternoon (3:30-4) and then at 8:30. Lo has bottles all day..I pump 24 oz, just enough for 6 bottles a day. If he wakes during the night, I breastfeed. I have found that if I go longer between sessions, I get more milk.

    Edit; added more

  • I pump at 8, 10:30, 12:30, 2:30-3, 9, and around 1:30-2 when DS wakes up.

  • I feed them around 10p and then usually not again until 630-700a. I'm super engorged by that point so I pump off an ounce or two so they don't get a firehose to the face. After they eat first thing AM, I shower and then pump through one letdown (usually 5min or so) before I leave for work. Combined, that usually nets me 5-6oz.

Add that to my pumping output of 18-20oz per day and I have enough for 6 4oz bottles or 3 feedings. At least that's how it's supposed to go.

They eat 6x a day, so I bf the other three feedings.

  • I bump at 8:30 and 2 m-f at work and I nurse LO around 11:30. Works well most days. I don't usually pump on the weekends.
  • I pump before school (2-3 hours after LO's las feeding) at lunch (3 ish hours after the first pump, and then if I know I'm not going home right away, I'll pump one more time after school. If I don't do that pump, I feed LO as soon as I get home, 4-5 hours after my last pump.

  • I pump at 9am, 12pm and 3pm while at work and then again after we put him to bed at night.  I am just barley pumping enough to cover what he eats at dc.

  • 4:50am, 7am, 12 or 12:45, 4pm, 8pm. It's a crazy schedule b/c of teaching but my supple has figured it out!
  • My schedule is all sorts of messed up. I am very limited as to when I can pump due to coverage at work, plus now that a coworker went to management complaining it was unfair I got more breaks than others, I only get 3 sessions allotted for a 12 1/2 hour shift. I usually feed LO in the morning before dropping her off at daycare, pump 3 times at work however I can fit them in, pump as soon as I get home at 11, and then end up staying up and pumping again a little before 1AM just to have enough for the next day :(

  • @texasgirl81-It's some bullshit for sure. I've had so much stress about it lately and it's a sore subject right now because DD just had her 4 month appointment and the pediatrician was concerned she wasn't gaining enough. If I can't get my supply up and get her back on track by our next appointment she said I'd need to do formula since she's so low on the growth curve. If DH and I had the resources I would just walk out.
  • Around 8am if he doesn't feed, 11am-ish, 2pm-ish, and 5pm-ish. Give or take an hour. I make enough for 3 four oz bottles, but only if I pump one extra session at home too. If I only pumped at work, I would not have enough.

  • I pump 4x a day at work - 9:30, 11:30, 2 and 4:30. LO eats four, sometimes five times when I'm gone. I don't always pump enough at work to cover his feeds, so I also do a 10pm pumping session, which is in the middle of his long sleep stretch. I hate pumping and nurse when I'm with him.

LO will be four months next week; hoping for the best re: sleep regression but prepared for the worst.

  • I only pump before school and during my lunch break. I'm a teacher and that's all I have time for but I get enough for the next day.

  • @cortneyloo Sorry someone at your job is such a dbag! Hope you're able to get your supply issue solved. I'm using mothers milk tea, and it actually helped me really quickly after a stint in the er for dehydration. I was getting half my usual output, but all is right in the world again now. Good luck!

  • I feed DS 1-3 times in the morning (including when I drop him off), pump 3 hrs later, feed him over lunch, pump 3 hrs later, feed him once at night.  I also try to pump again at night and before he gets up or after an early a.m. feed.  I only get 8 oz's a day pumping so I have to supplement a couple bottles of formula.  I don't know why it's so hard for me to pump.  Sometimes I'm completely engorged and hardly anything will come out.  But when I'm home I EBF and he has  no problem getting enough.  I hate the pump!
  • I only pump for missed feedings.

I work 2 days a week for 6 hours, so I'll pump once on each of those days. That's it.

I make sure to eat a lot of protein and stay hydrated which really helps my milk supply. I've never added extra pumping sessions. I really dislike pumping. I've been known to skip pumping on work days and just feed him like crazy when I get home.

I did that with my first baby too.
