When did you take your little one in public? There is a holiday party tonight and I really want to go! My LO is 9 days old. I would wear her in a sling and not let anyone touch/hold her. Opinions?

I've taken her out since she was 5 days and kept her covered. Ppl are pretty respectful and don't try to touch her.

Now if you would have asked me 2 weeks ago I would say go for it. Now I would say no and be very very careful. I'm currently in the hospital with my LO, we've been here for a week and a half. She has RSV that she got from someone. And I was careful!

How busy is the party? Is it a small gathering in someone's home? Is it a big party in a public place? With there be other little kids there?

I'd be cautiously okay with wearing a baby to a small party with no other kids there, but otherwise I'd be a bit worried.

There will be kids. Guess I'll play it safe. I just hate missing out on things with my husband and DD1:(

I took DD to a Christmas party for DS's playgroup-so tons of kids- at 10 days. She was even passed around to most of the mommies. We just kept the kids away. She slept the whole time and all was fine.

We took him to the dr at 5 days and are going out tomorrow to run some errands at 7 days tomorrow.

I took LO out 4 days PP, DH graduated from his sheriffs academy and I didn't want either of us to miss it! I had her in the car seat or held her, and didn't let anyone other than DH touch (I didn't want her thrown around like a hot potato). A mommy friend of mine recommended putting the mittens on her hands, because everyone wants to stick their dirty fingers in a baby's hand (so true, I hadn't even thought of that before)

If you wear her you should be fine. Anyone who comes into your house from the outside world is bringing in germs and I see you have a 3 year old who may as well be a petri dish

Germs will ALWAYS be in the air but if you keep her close and people aren't breathing right on her, a party is no different from the grocery store.

I am always nervous around lots of little kids...they seem to always have runny noses. I didn't take my LO in public until almost 2 months. I did however go to family members houses because they know to let me know if they are sick even the least bit and I would stay away.

Pedi said to avoid crowded places for 6 wks. First 1-2 weeks, out with car seat to restaurants 3x - I didn't touch anything but baby and silverware and I was the only one to touch baby. Now at 3-4 weeks, out wearing baby, adult party (at restaurant) and family party (in home). Taking some risks...
