Allergy to citrus

Anyone else's LO showing signs of an allergy to citrus fruits?

I thought DD just had a rash on her face from teething, but it seems to worse somedays more than others.  It cleared up over the weekend and on Monday when I picked her up from DC it was back with a vengance.  I asked what fruit they had with lunch and it was oranges.

I've asked them to not give her citrus fruits for a while to see if thats the problem, but I just don't know.

Re: Allergy to citrus

  • My doctor said some acidic fruits can cause a rash, but its not a true allergy. He called it something specific I just remember it being like a contact rash.  He just suggested we wash hands and face really good after eating citrus. But I would call your pedi if you think she might have an allergy.

  • Thanks... I think it might be a contact rash.  I haven't noticed any other allergic symptoms (swelling, difficulty breathing).

I plan to contact the pedi if it continues to get worse.  :(

My DD has psoriasis and citrus causes an outbreak. Too much causes huge blisters.
She eats a bit, but knows the consequences if she consumes a lot.

She was even prescribed a soap that contained orange oil once and it burned her skin.

ETA: but she is not 'allergic'.
