EP moms!

Hello ladies! When my daughter was born almost 3 weeks ago, we intended on breastfeeding as long as we could. We had to switch to EP almost immediately because despite seeing an LC, my LO just wouldn't latch properly (causing me mass amounts of pain). So far it's been a fairly simple process for us, and my supply has been fantastic. I have been pumping every 2-3 hours, trying to keep a healthy diet, and pumping 6-7oz each time (using a double electric breast pump). The last two days I have noticed a large dip in my supply, I've gone from 6-7oz to 3-4oz per session. This morning, my first session only gave me 1oz for both breasts. I've left a message with my LC and am waiting for word back. Just wondering if any other moms have had this issue, and have any advice! Thank you in advance!

Re: EP moms!

  • I am EP as well (baby girl is 3 weeks old and had latch issues from day 1). I think 6-7 oz is a lot...but maybe that's just because I only get about 3oz each pump and I pump regularly every 3 hours. I'd be curious to hear what your LC says. How many oz is your babes eating per feeding?

  • Sorry, no advice- I'm just amazed at your production!!! At my best I pump 2 oz in a session. Hopefully your LC or someone on the board can be of help to you. Good luck!
  • My daughter eats 5oz a session, she is a power house! The LC saw us right away and believes I was dehydrated. She checked the pump, and gave me a tea to help milk production. Must have been a fluke this morning because I pumped in her office and got 5oz!
  • I wish I could get that much from pumping! I also EP due to latching issues and have to supplement with formula cause I only get 2oz a session and LO drinks 4oz

    I second this!
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • I find my supply goes up and down based on time of day and length of pumping. I was getting 40 oz a day, and I seem to be leveling out in the 30s. I only get 2-3 oz in the middle of the night but 9-12 during the day sometimes. I'd try not to stare too hard at the daily numbers.
  • Off topic, but do you ladies use a hospital grade pump? I have been using the PISA, but the LC was really pushing for renting the symphony, which is $75/month.
  • I have the medela pump in style
  • PISA here as well
  • I also have a medela pump in style
