Pregnant with twins after MC?

Good Afternoon moms, I have a question for all of you mommie who have had twins. I had a MC Oct 23 2013 and of we were devastated it was our second child we currently have an 11month old and are wanting our kiddos close in age. We'll we just found out we are prego again and are 5 wks almost 6 and I have had full pregnancy symptoms since 4wks... With my first one I didn't even figure out I was prego until almost 9wks and it was a complete breeze.... I know every pregagncy is different but I'm already showing a little and this has been a completely different experience with nausea, headaches, acne (haven't had acne like this since JR HIGH) the whole 9 yards... My grandfather is one set of 3 twins and they all were identical his mom had 12 children.... So my question from y'all's experience is could I possibly be having twins?????

Re: Pregnant with twins after MC?

  • Any paternal incidents of multiple pregnancies wouldn't be valid for you-only maternal.   I've heard of people who get pregnant quickly after a M/C having twins because they will ovulate more than one egg.

Honestly, it's a toss up.  You could be/may not be having multiples.   I will say that between my singleton and twin pregnancies, MY symptoms were the same...I really didn't have any.  GL-

  • Mine were my third pregnancy and I had a belly really early and was super sick. But identicals are not genetic. And really, you'll hear all sorts of stories about not having symptoms with a multiples pregnancy.
Come back and let us know after your ultra sound. Good luck and congrats.
  • I had pretty much zero morning sickness - so it is not a good indicator of multiples.
Only an ultrasound will let you know if you are having twins.

  • I go pregnant with twins 3 months after my miscarriage. But your symptoms and "showing"(which is just bloat at this stage) are likely due to you already having a baby, and the fact your other one is still so young. Good luck and congratulations eiher way!

  • I had a m/c March 17, found out I was pregnant again April 12. I did have nausea early on, and my pregnancy test was pretty dark early on. Since I had just had a m/c I just hoped this was a sign that I would not have another m/c and that pregnancy would stick. After getting scolded from a nurse practitioner for not waiting 3 months to try again, an ultrasound confirmed twins. I NEVER expected it to be two from those two symptoms alone. My betas at 23dpo were also in line with a singleton.

Possible, but improbable as twins account for only 3% of pregnancies. Your grandfather being a twin shouldn't affect your chances of having twins, since 1) hyperovulation is passed through the maternal lines and 2) identicals are spontaneous anyway and not due to hyperovulation. All the symptoms you listed are pretty common for a second pregnancy and pregnancies can definitely differ. Differences in symptoms don't indicate different sexes or number of babies...it's just normal variance.

Sorry for your prior loss and congrats on your pregnancy.

  • Possible? Yes. Is it twins? Not sure how we can tell you since for 345679th time, only an u/s can give you this answer.

Also identical twinning is NOT genetic.
