Questions on post-pregnancy body/weight

Hi Everyone,
Okay, I am not sure how unusual these thoughts are, but I figured I would post them here and see if anyone can relate.  First, I keep wondering if this lovely, extra, loose skin in my mid-section will ever go away or tighten up.  I gained about 26 pounds when pregnant, lost most of it in the first couple of weeks, and got back to my pp weight in two months are so (and then gained 2 pounds after that, which won't go away).  Every time I do push-ups, I see this lovely skin hanging, and it doesn't seem to ever go down.  Anyone have any experience with this, and will it go away?
Second, and this might be the weird part, when I weigh myself each morning I think about where the extra weight is going now.  Especially when it comes to my boobs.  I am BF and I weigh myself before I pump each day.  I usually get between 9-13 ounces, and figure that probably accounts for some of the weight.  Anyone else ever think about this, or am I focusing on something that is very insignificant and silly (or both!)?
Thanks!

  • Both very insignificant and silly.

  • Yes your body has done and is doing amazing things, but I get worrying about the aftermath. I am one who has to work really hard to lose the weight and from my experience from the last 2, there was still skin. I gained 65lbs with my first, and about 40 with my second. I lost all the weight, and worked out like crazy, used lotion to help the elasticity in my skin. Some of it is just in your genes I think. Sort of like stretch marks. My stomach was flat-ish. Pretty well toned. But, the bottom always still had some wrinkle that I could pull and make weird shapes with. I lovingly referred to it as my "goo". I'm pretty sure in my case at least that I can tone up again, but the only way I will ever get rid of the extra skin would be surgically.
  • It will be like that forever. Sorry.

  • @gigglejiggle. Any recommendations for good ab exercises after all our stomachs have been through? :)
  • I also think about this a lot, probably too often. I only gained 20 pounds, and I lost about 24 in three days postpartum. However, while not overweight, I weighed about 20 more than I'd like to anyway before pregnancy (yay hypothyroidism?), and while I've gotten thinner after taking thyroid meds and am thinner than I was pre-pregnancy, I haven't lost any more weight. My guess is it's in my boobs?

I want to try to lose more weight, but most people I know who have done that while breastfeeding had it affect their supply, so I'll probably wait (I typed "weight," LOL) until we're done with that, because I have low supply anyway.

The other thing that sometimes drives me nuts is that people seem unable to understand that the uterus/belly don't snap flat again immediately after birth. It would make me want to cry when I'd be out with the obviously newborn LO and people would ask me when the baby was due. It's almost flat now, and some people I know keep saying to me, "don't worry, you'll lose the baby weight." And I'm like "I LOST THE BABY WEIGHT YA JERKS. And then some. Did you even SEE me before I was pregnant?"  And why does the world think that the default non-pregnant female stomach is perfectly flat with washboard abs?? I don't think people necessarily thought that when I was a kid. Oh well.

I also have that loose skin, but then again so does Cindy Crawford: https://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/12_01/cindtcrawfordPCN_468x718.jpg

It might be here to stay, but if even she has it, when she probably has a team of people trying to make her look as model-like as possible, it's not a "bad" thing in my mind.
  • Thanks, everyone.  Just to clarify, I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining.  It was more so just sharing musings and thoughts, and wanted to see how common they were!

  • It's okay, @mgm84. I ask myself these same questions a lot, however "silly and insignificant" they may be. I know acceptance is key about certain things (loose skin that will most likely never be the same), but sometimes our vanity makes us mourn a little the loss of our former bodies, no matter how proud we are of what our bodies have been through. I just try to keep up with my fitness and diet and do the best I can, understanding that my body is naturally holding on to some weight to feed LO. It can be discouraging, especially with celebrities bouncing back so quickly and then insta-bragging about it, but I believe that hard work can eventually get you back to a body you feel good in. Even if it's shaped a little differently. I would stop looking at the scale and the loose skin and focus on the parts where you see results from your work outs. I may still have that "goo" and extra lbs, but overall I look way better/more toned than I did a couple of months ago. Give it time and dedication.
