GTKY: What's your jewelry style?

As I waited over a half an hour in Pandora tonight to buy a family member a gift, I started thinking how different our taste in jewelry is. The person I was buying for loves those Pandora charms and all, but personally I think they are kind of hideous. Obviously by the long wait I had in that store, though, they are popular with a lot of people. So I was wondering, how would you all describe your taste in jewelry? What do you typically buy or prefer to receive as a gift? Are there any styles/brands that you think are hideous? Don't worry about hurting someone's feelings by saying you don't like a particular style; we all have different tastes!

I'm not a fan of Pandora bracelets either. I like a lot of different types of jewelry but wear gold hoops or gold ball post earrings and an initial necklace most. I also like large statement necklaces and trendy necklaces like the popular bubble necklace.

  • I like very dainty, classic jewelry in silver, white gold, or platinum. Some people might say the jewelry I like is plain, but I like to think of it as elegant. For instance, my engagement ring is a solitaire, and that is pretty much exactly what I wanted. For necklaces, I like them thin with a small pendant. I am not a fan of big pendants at all, at least on me, though they look good on some people. I prefer a single pearl or a small pendant with two or three little gemstones on it. I love the look of some bracelets but don't actually like wearing them because they irritate my wrist. (I actually don't like wearing rings either, but I almost always wear my wedding ring anyway.)

In terms of what I don't like, I'm not a fan of yellow gold, especially with my complexion. I don't like jewelry that is overly ornate. As I mentioned in the OP, I am not of fan of most items sold in the Pandora jewelry stores. Also, I don't get the appeal of that Open Hearts jewelry line that Jane Seymour is always peddling on TV for Kay or Zales or one of those stores. I think they are pretty ugly looking.

  • I think pandora is ugly too. I don't notice when people wear it. My opinion is based off of their commercials only.  I'm also not a fan of gold.  I prefer sterling silver or white gold.  My jewelry taste is a pair of CZ studs (hoping for the real deal one of these days) and a Tiffany necklace each day. I have about 7 to choose from.

I used to wear a nomination bracelet when I was in college.  It got pretty expensive buying the different charms.  I have no idea where that thing is now but I hope my sister has it somewhere.

  • I like simple, classic, dainty jewelry. I wear a mixture of Rose, yellow and white gold. Mostly diamonds.

Other than the fact that I am not a big yellow gold fan with my complexion, I totally agree!

    What's a nomination bracelet?

  • I don't like pandora either. I'm a Tiffany's silver slut. I wear a lot of it. I have probably 15ish pieces. I wear my rose gold MK watch almost every day too. I have not bought any of this myself. My mom usually gets me a nice piece for my birthday.

My wedding and engagement ring are white gold. Yellow gold is not my fave.
  • @BC&LM a nomination bracelet is an Italian charm bracelet. I just did a google image of them and they are not my 32 year old selfs style. Oh well!

  • I had to google this pandora jewelry its not my thing. For a typical day I wear hoops or studs with my yoga pants lol. If I'm getting dressed I love fun cheap jewelry from Francesca's, Express or Lucky Brand.

  • I worked for Tiffany & co. Twice during my career. Once in corporate and recently in retail. The company is amazing and working with their products is fun.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Simple sterling silver or white gold. My necklaces are small pendants. I have a small open heart pendant and then a heart with my lO's name and DOB with a pearl. No rings yet but I do want a vintage looking engagement ring when the time comes :)

I like simple and dainty.  Silver or white gold chain with a simple pendant for a necklace.  Earrings are usually CZ studs, sometimes short and dangly.  I tried the chunkier necklaces and bracelets along with bigger, longer earrings but felt like a kid playing dress-up.

@BC&LM, I don't like the Open Hearts stuff either and DH makes fun of it every time it's on TV.

    The commercials are soooooo cheesy!
  • Y'all are fancier than me! The only expensive piece I own is my diamond engagement ring.

I like changing things up. Before I started baby wearing, I wore a lot of statement necklaces.

  • White gold, platinum and silver. Cheap stuff gives me a rash. My skin has expensive taste.

  • I am in the minority here- I wear big often tribal stuff. I have tons of African and Indian necklaces and earrings. I rarely wear yellow gold but I have a lot of silver. The more colorful the better and I have a lot of beaded or jeweled things that are reds or turquoise.
Sadly DS1 has broken a lot of my stuff so I don't wear most of my jewelry unless I'm going out sans kids.

  • I keep it simply and typically only wear earrings. I never wear yellow gold because it looks terrible with my skin.

  • I think the Pandora bracelets are gaudy. I would never wear one.
My taste typically runs to understated, classy elegance. I'm in the minority, but I love yellow gold. I'm a sucker for interesting details too. This is my wedding ring, and I usually only wear it and stud earrings. I told DH that a really nice Christmas gift would be a pearl strand necklace. He being himself made an R rated joke about pearl necklaces. Le sigh.

Me too! I hate anything flower, heart or butterfly shaped. It screams high school to me.
  • I have a bunch of jewelry from India, Pakistan, and Lebanon that I love. Pretty gaudy but it works for me. Since DD came along I only wear my engagement and wedding ring

  • In all honesty I don't care much for jewelry. I wear my ring my fiance gave me (which is a under $5 lol) and I might wear a simple chain necklace that will sometimes have a small charm on it occasionally. I'm just not a jewelry person. All the jewelry I have is under like $25 lol. Minus a bracelet my brother had specially made for me while he was in Kuwait (I won't say how much). I guess I just prefer the least expensive/cheap stuff.

  • I wish I had more jewelry, but for some reason h doesn't get the hints. All I have is my wedding ring, which is currently broken, because they resized my white gold ring with sterling silver, and I am allergic to it. Ugh.

I really want just some nice round diamond earrings, but h is a cheap ass for stuff like that, so who knows.
  • I like white gold and platinum with princess cut diamonds. I don't wear a lot of jewelry though only my engagement ring and band and a necklace. Though I do have my right hand rings picked out and can hardly wait until my hubby buys them :).

  • I usually wear my wedding ring and my origami owl necklace. That's it for jewelry.
  • I used to wear a lot more statement pieces, but not anymore with N's grabby hands!

Most of the time I wear classic pieces - simple necklaces with a diamond pendant or initial pendant. Diamond solitaires or gold studs. I don't discriminate between yellow gold or white gold - like them both!
