As I waited over a half an hour in Pandora tonight to buy a family member a gift, I started thinking how different our taste in jewelry is. The person I was buying for loves those Pandora charms and all, but personally I think they are kind of hideous. Obviously by the long wait I had in that store, though, they are popular with a lot of people. So I was wondering, how would you all describe your taste in jewelry? What do you typically buy or prefer to receive as a gift? Are there any styles/brands that you think are hideous? Don't worry about hurting someone's feelings by saying you don't like a particular style; we all have different tastes!
Re: GTKY: What's your jewelry style?
In terms of what I don't like, I'm not a fan of yellow gold, especially with my complexion. I don't like jewelry that is overly ornate. As I mentioned in the OP, I am not of fan of most items sold in the Pandora jewelry stores. Also, I don't get the appeal of that Open Hearts jewelry line that Jane Seymour is always peddling on TV for Kay or Zales or one of those stores. I think they are pretty ugly looking.
My wedding and engagement ring are white gold. Yellow gold is not my fave.
I like changing things up. Before I started baby wearing, I wore a lot of statement necklaces.
Sadly DS1 has broken a lot of my stuff so I don't wear most of my jewelry unless I'm going out sans kids.
my read shelf:
My taste typically runs to understated, classy elegance. I'm in the minority, but I love yellow gold. I'm a sucker for interesting details too. This is my wedding ring, and I usually only wear it and stud earrings. I told DH that a really nice Christmas gift would be a pearl strand necklace. He being himself made an R rated joke about pearl necklaces. Le sigh.
I really want just some nice round diamond earrings, but h is a cheap ass for stuff like that, so who knows.
Most of the time I wear classic pieces - simple necklaces with a diamond pendant or initial pendant. Diamond solitaires or gold studs. I don't discriminate between yellow gold or white gold - like them both!
